Re: And so it Begins....

Well, no new progress. With the frame being bent an 1/8", I gotta get it on the frame rack. Problem is the guy who owns one has been in and out of the hospital the last week. So, the car will wait.

On top of that, last week we had a tornado come thru and damn near took everything out. It jumped over my uncle's house landing several 100 yds away. He still needs a new roof and had about $4,000 in debris removal. Honestly though, his was nothing compared to several friends and other family members just down the road from him. His RR was sitting out cause mine's in the shop. Can you believe that the only damage was just leaves being blown on top of it? Only by the grace of God was no one hurt. Oh, and about 2 miles away our fair was still going on and the tornado some how missed that too.

Here's a link from our local paper. This barn is about 1000 yds away from my uncle's house. Like I said, it came up to his property, jumped it, then landed in the field between his house and the Schafrath's.

Glad everyone is ok, your car will get done. We had a twister mess our house up when we lived in Cheyenne, Mrs Beep and out oldest 2yrs old at the time were at home and I watched it from about a mile away. It was small compared to some of yours in mid America but it was on the ground for 20 minutes

glad no one got hurt Steve. back in the '80s, a torondo went trhu Beaver Falls. My Aunt's house was between my Grandmothers'nd my Uncles, about 5 miles apart from each other. It went down my Aunt's street, wrecked a bunch of houses. It didn't touch hers, but it picked hte hous up enough to move it on the foundation, and it had to be torn down. My Granmother and Uncle didn't know anything was going on till later.

Yeah scary stuff for sure. I have a few pictures Ill have to upload of the damage. I had left the fairgrounds at 1600 and went home. Des and I were watching tv when the storm blew in. I live about 6 miles away from my uncle so it was raining pretty bad. The sad thing though is we didn't know what had happened until about 5 hrs later.

Unreal.

Well, nothing new yet. Actually, I got to drive her yesterday for the first time since before Carlisle. We've grown tired of waiting for the one guy to pull the frame, so on Monday I'm taking it to a local shop to get pulled. It's probably better anyways as the shop has a new state of the art machine, where the other guy dosent. They're not gonna charge any labor, so it's just $48/hr on the machine. Of course, who knows how long that will take. Anyways, after having to prime the carb, she fired right up and idled almost right away. There's no tailpipes on it right now either. The exhaust comes out of the mufflers which are right about even with the door. Holy crap does that make a difference in the sound! I've decided for now anyways, that I may just leave the tailpipes off. The sound difference is amazing, and yes Im still young enough that I like that "drag car sound!"

The gas can is sitting on the seat with the hose running out of the window and under the hood. This makes for an interesting ride! I had 2 gallons in which to travel 6 milesback to my house with. Needless to say, the can was alomost empty when I pulled in to my garage!!! :drive: I forgot how much fun it is to drive it!!

After the frame gets pulled, she'll come back to my house for awhile. My uncle is building a rack and would like to get that done while my car is out. Hopefully by mid December he'll be ready again and we can start dropping in the new trunk pans and a few other pieces.

Re: And so it Begins....

I've been working on my other "project" too the last several days. Im getting ready to drop in a 52,000 mile 318 into my '88 W150. The current/original 318 is about dead. No motivation whatsoever. I cant complain though, as it still runs and gets me where I need to go. With winter coming up, I had really wanted to accomplish this, so hopefully things will go smooth. The "new" 318 is out of a '78 truck, and my '88 is TBI injected. For now, we're gonna try to keep the TBI stuff. It "should" work, although I'm not holding my breath. We'll find out in couple of weeks I suppose! There's a thread over on Moparts in the truck section with a few pictures of the work so far. Not many pics, but a few.

Ok, what did I miss there?
I'll take a guess that he's talking about the tornado. Somehow I missed part of this thread so I'll say the same thing. I'm always amazed by the stories I hear about how tornadoes seem to have minds and seem to choose what they will, or will not hit! Steve, it must feel good to get back to getting things done on the car, and good luck with the truck.!

Ahh. I see. Ya, no kidding. No major injuries happened thankfully.

Progress is always good, but there's just not enough of it yet.

Strap that "fuel cell" down tight... :D

I've run a few cars over the years w/ no tail pipes...I always got tired of that very quickly...it's not just the sound...it resonates inside the interior...

Sounds like that new frame shop is the way to go.
