And so it Begins....(Updated pg.36)

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Ok. That sounds good! Hopefully we can make it happen!

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

I recently went with a major collision shop that painted a car for me (I wont mention what it is, I dont want the jealousy mob after me. :wreck: ). Not only did they do a complete repaint with good patch work, they did it in 6 weeks and 3 years later it had some bubbling in areas that were patched and they warrantied the repairs (which took a week). So your thought process may be sound.

Im glad they took care of ya. My plan is still have my uncle paint it, which would drastically cut down on the costs. Hes more of a paint guy vs. sheet metal guy. Hopefully though, the body will be straight and ready for paint next year.

We'll see.

I plan on stopping up several times over the next few weeks and will be adding pics as things progress.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Good luck with the shop Steve. Sounds like you got a pretty good plan.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Thanks. Hopefully it'll turn out ok.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Just a suggestion....when they remove the trunk floor it exposes the inside of the frame rails. If they look reasonable (I hope they are) then it's a good time to treat 'em with POR15 too, before the new trunk floor goes in. Good luck with it!

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Thanks for the tip. I actually did that back in 2010 when we removed the original trunk floor. Its all ready to go.

Went up to the shop today to bring in a few parts. Also had to buy some more parts from AMD. I knew that was coming.......

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Steve, you gotta put out an ABP, they stole the back half of your car!!!! :jester: Did you expect that you would have to replace that much metal?

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Man, no kidding!!

Yeah, I knew it would take a ton of metal. I was afraid of how it would look too once all the old got cut away.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

that thlngs looking like the turkey the day after Thanksglvlng! gota love these old cars....makes me want to tear lnto mlne less and less....

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Thanks. Yeah it sure is a mess huh? But im impressed though. In just 2 days there seems to more progress than ever before.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

They tore into that fast. I take it AMD makes a trunk lip at the trunk seal?

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

Yeah, they do. That's actually what I had to buy yesterday. They have twp upper halves and two lower halves. I already had the upper right side, so I had to get the other three pieces.

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 14)

More progress. It's starting to look like a car again. The new pieces came in Saturday so I took them up to the shop today. Parts are only test fit in so far. It seems though that the AMD stuff is fitting in fairly well, with only a few little hang ups. Over all, the guy doing the work is pretty impressed with the quality. Good to know if anyone here is wondering about the AMD B body stuff.

was it parked outside or just raining in the shop? :jester:

Re: And so it Begins....(Updated pg 16)

As I pulled in I heard the motor fire up. These things are like our kids, huh? You can discern between your own and a hundred others. They moved it out for a bit while shuffling things around. So they said...
