No more Road for the Runner!

Here a pic of the dash when we started to work on it, make some progress on it yesterday, will have to post once it will be stripped to bare metal.

I would prime it black if you are using the original suede paint to make sure it covers!
 
looks really good. one thing to watch is where car is supported. this can sometimes result in flex in the body and all those gaps that you have set up so well might change whan put it down on wheels with weight in it. again, looking great

You sure have put a lot of work in to the runner. Grate job. Oh and now you are famous with you in the pic. LOL.
 
Thanks Quikbird, I forgot this important when I did it you're right! Hope it won't move that much. The car is on her casters wheels, but without the weight like you said. I'll see that once the car will be reassembled. :)
 
Hello guys, just a quick update.

We are finishing to fix up the little detail, so no pics to add here, but just to tell you that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel because the car is finlly ready for paint! She will go at the paint shop on Saturday 27th by the end of the week! We are so excited about that!

Will take some pics of the car going there and of course post some pics while she is in process! :)

During that time (car in the paint shop), we'll be able to paint the dashboard and perhaps reassemble it before the car comes back, also a lot of other parts to paint, like the wiper motor, wiper arms etc. Once every of that is done, we will finally be able to start working on the power plant! Still a lot to go before we can see the bird on the road --'.
But at least when she will come back from the paint, we can start reassembling the interior parts :)
 
Yes it is! Yep I will do that for sure. We are lucky Saturday seems to be a sunny day, that is cool for the car on the tow truck so she won't get water on her. It has been raining for like two weeks now!
Can't wait!!
 
Guys I have a question for you ^^

I need to replace (unfortunately) my stock bellhousing for my 383. It is cracked, tried to weld it back with the proper technique but it was to damage for that, and it cracked on another locations... Anyway, my question is, like I have to change it, and it is not a nut and bolt restoration as you may know and see lol (sorry for the purists), is it the right time to buy an aluminium bellhousing? What do you think of them? will it handle like 500-600hp?
Is it strong enough?

1970-72 used an aluminum bell housing but the tooth count on the flywheel is different and you will be going from an 11" clutch to a 10.5" Look at Brewers Performance for options or a scatter shield

Don't know how bad the crack is. You must heat the metal and keep it hot while welding it. I ordered a special rod to weld mine up with tig. Found it on line. The metal dose not have to be heated to where it is red hot. I use a heat gun and keep it on the metal while welding then you have to take a small hammer and keep tapping the area while cooling down this keep's the weld in the pours holes in the cast steel. Don't let it cool to quickly. Their is an article on Mr Tig welding cast with this rod. He explains in detail on how to do it. He dose all of J leno's work on some really old car's. The bell housing I bought has a small crack at top about 2 inches look's as though some one dropped it or it fell off a shelf. Keep up the good work my friend. Also to me Nut's and bolts are just that. :thumbsup: Oh have a friend in Melborn Fl. that has some cast steel bell housing. If you would like to contact him PM me and will give you the info. He ships world wide.
 
Exactly what we did for the bellhousing but I don't know why but it didn't work unfortunately... I didn't know about the hammering process though thanks for that :)
It was a crack at the bottom of it, starting from a hole threaded to the back of the bellhousing on like 5 inches if I remember well

If you are running 5-600 hp bite the bullet and get a blowshield. the 2 manufacturers are Lakewood and quiktime. I think now all one company. also get SFI approved flywheel and clutch assemblies. safety is not something you mess around with or try to cheap out of. if something in that area lets go under acceleration it look like a bomb went off in the car. say goodbye to your feet and probable other shrapnel type damage to you and any passengers. safety doesn't cost much more.

I went on that web site found the part number and found it at Summit Racing. It is 671$ lot of extra dollar that were not planned in my budget ^^

I would clean up the old one where you welded it and grind a grove where the crack was about 20 per cent of thickness of the metal and try again. May have to weld both sides. If done rite it will be stronger that the rest of the metal. I looked at the scatter shield type bell housing. Decided to stick with the original one. Not drag racing so don't have to worry about the fly wheel coming through the floor.
