More info. Mr.6pack Camshaft.
Sorry guys but all this talk about camshafts got me exited enough to re-dig up this older thread quote from moparts regarding the Mr.6pack camshaft:
I've spoken with Bob on the phone and have acquired his camshaft for my stock 383HP. I don't have my engine or...
Interesting topic. I was just over at TireRack.com looking at BFG T/As. They have some on closeout with the country of origin, USA. Then they have the same exact size NOT on closeout at a higher price point. Country of origin, Mexico.
Mr.6pack
A lot of good suggestions in this thread. Here are a couple of mine:
The advertised compression ratio of 10:1 in a stock 68/69 RR 383 was optimistic. 9.2:1 on a good day was more like it. And while there are many aftermarket piston choices out there, last I looked, none have the...
Hey everyone, I've been researching the factory original wheel dressing options available for 1969 383 equipped Road Runners. Or if they came with 14" Road Wheels? When comparing the 1969 parts catalog, the sales brochure, and the salesmen pocket guide, it leaves me to wonder the actual reality...

You're welcome!
And here are the latest PQIA test results for Shell Rotella T4 15W-40 (CK-4).
Rotella is yet again good-to-go:
ZINC: 1203ppm
PHOSPHORUS: 1080ppm

But, beware, the new...
I am looking for a good set of these 14" inch wheel covers, part number #2881773 . Chrysler Parts Catalogs show they were used on 1968 and 1969 Plymouth Fury, Belvedere, Satellite, Road Runner and GTX models.
May consider trading my Plymouth Division Dog Dish hubcaps for a set of these covers...
New Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 API CK-4
Here's a fresh off the press oil analysis of Shell Rotella T5 10W-30. It's the latest API service classification (CK-4) and still has a healthy dose of ZDDP.

Back in the day...
During the 1950s and 60s and 70s, API set Zinc recommendations at 1000-1200ppm, e.g., API SC, SD, SE
Currently, Shell Rotella T Triple 10W-30 still has a Muscle Car era dose of Zinc at 1225ppm. IMO, additizing past that is unnecessary.
August 2016 Rotella 10W-30 test...

I used to have a 440 with the 484 Purple Shaft. I would not recommend it in a slightly warmed up 383 given your projected driving habits. If you want to do an old Purple Shaft, I'd consider the 272 instead. But that wouldn't be my first choice for a camshaft.
I'm building a stock 69 383HP...
Wildly Optimistic
Here is a quote from JohnRR from the moparts forum:
John goes on to say that a factory a 68/69 383HP would have been "9.2:1 at best". So one could say that the advertised 10:1 compression ratio was wildly optimistic.
A Sealed Power forged 383 piston has a Compression...
I thought about aftermarket rocker arms as well. Two things swayed me. (1) They won't fit under stock valve covers. (2) Additional parts to go wrong makes me a bit nervous. Not much to go wrong in a stamped piece of steel.
One of the things I like about the Bob K Mr.6Pack camshaft is he...
I understand. I didn't think you were "disparaging" Bob's cam.
I too have Bob's cam going into my engine. In my case, it's a 383 Road Runner engine. I suspect it will have a little more rump, sound/idle wise, with the 383 combo versus a 440. I understand the 440s with Bob's cam are sewing...
