I'd say you got a very solid car the age there John if that's the only rust issues you have.

Got my speedo back together today. It looked like this before.

PICT0006.jpg

The plastic bezel had a couple of funky circles cut in it. It must have had something mounted to it. The chrome really looked bad too. I bought another speedo without gauges on Ebay, mostly for the bezel and was pleasantly suprised to see the chrome was quite a bit better.

I sent that one out for chroming to a place recommended in Hagerstown, IN called Custom Metal Finishing. I'm not impressed with the results, with obvious scratches in the chrome. I won't be using them again. Its shiney though and by the time I got everything together, the scratches don't show as much.... Still irritates me though....

I installed the original speedo and gauges (all in real nice shape) and the best bits and pieces from both and it looks pretty good.

Looks like it picked up 12K miles in the process... :basketcase:

Sux when the chrome guys let you down... Rather than launch into a 42 page tirade let me just tell you guys DON'T EVER USE THE CHROME WIZARD IN TENNESSEE... :brickwall:

Yea, the first pic is the ebay speedo in the orginal bezel that came in my car. I put it all back together to keep the parts in one place. The ebay speedo has 49k and my car has 61k miles.

There seems to be more horror stories about chrome shops then there are bumpers. There's a local shop and I've had good luck with them years ago, but I have heard its been hit or miss. The bumpers will go there though, but I think I may find someplace else for the diecast.

Best part is our emblem company has a plating department, but trying to do anything other then the emblems isn't gonna happen.

That does look good John! It will make such a difference in how the dash looks. How is that emblem company doing these days?

Pretty good. Its turned around and making the customers happy. Harley has approached us about some really cool stuff they have coming up. Got a RFQ for a lever for the Tesla car too... We'll see how that goes.

Looking good John. Hows that Road Runner coming? I know, I do it too. :brickwall:

Its really been on the back burner for now. I was going to do some stuff on it today for a change, but my pain in the neck... ( really... bad discs in my neck) was a little too much for the cold and I stayed in the house.

LOOKS GREAT JOHN.....how did your daughters van turn out???

All done and running. She needed tires and front brakes too... My wife went down there and took her to the tire shop because we know she would just put it off.

$137, with me paying shipping both ways. The piece was really good too... No pitting, just some spotting in the chrome. In fact the guy commented how nice it was. They got one side perfect and really dropped the ball on the other side. I said something about it and never got an answer, so they're not getting any business from me.

The car has more diecast trim on the outside. I found some NOS tailights for a lot less $$ then having the old ones redone. I'm looking around for some NOS parking lights for the right price now. They're out there, just not at the price I want to pay. The grille is making me cringe though.... The center cloisonne emblem happens to be real close to the center cap for a new Chrysler wheel.... and we just some happen to make that piece for Chrysler.... but getting that grille rechromed is gonna break the bank.

So... here's an update on the chrome.... The chrome guy finally got back to me and offered to repair the bezel. So, being a person that likes to give people a second chance, I sent it back... with a UPS return tag in the box so it was sent and will come back on my nickel.... That irritates me just a little.... but whatever... The guy got it and now claims that I scratched the chrome and wants more $ to rechrome it!!

AND... He stripped the chrome already... BEFORE talking to me.... The last message was he was going to redo it and it was up to me if I want to pay or not.... WTF???
