Does this seem a little steep , I was checking around for someone to reinstall the front and rear windows in my rr , no one in the area will touch it except this outfit out of Burlington Vt "Crash auto glass" They said they would send two guys @ $200 per hour and it could take two to five hours , with no guarantees , if the glass breaks while installing its tuff titty said the kitty . I might try to install the rear glass but not the front . Any suggestions or recommendations ? I really don't want to spend a $1000 , seems crazy !

Keep looking! I did a front windshield and cracked it, don't want to do another. I would imagine the back would be twice as hard.

High priced and 0 liability isn't a good deal. As 4spd said" keep looking".

So no one like safelite or anybody will do it? I don't know how difficult the front versus the rear is, but the contours of that back glass scare the !@#$ out of me. That's the reason my dash hasn't been pulled yet. I don't want to take on either of those two pieces, front or back.

Geez.. after seeing what you have done, I shocked!

Glass is easy. Get the butyl seal for the rear glass and you just put it place and you're done. The front is a little tougher but a lot of silicone spray and some patience and the windshield falls in.

What's the worst that can happen?? You break the glass. If the pros screw up, you're out the price of the install and the windshield.

Just do it!!!!

Your right about us doing a lot of the stuff ourselves ,but I don't know about the glass . You might be right though , my own words are just do it ... and when we couldn't find anyone to help us we ended up doing just that and most time it turned out just fine. Let me digest this a little , I'll get back to you.

Here's a couple clowns putting in a gasketed windshield in a Mustang. Everything is very similar except I always put the gasket in the body and then the windshield in. Then you lock the gasket. Look in the FSM.

Seriously.... I've done a couple and it isn't that hard.

The back window is very easy, the hardest part is finding some place that stocks the butyl ribbon.

I thought it would be easy, tried it and cracked the drivers upper corner. Looks for several months for a new windshield. Finally I called a buddy that does auto glass installs. He gave me a hand on the second attempt. Just like John mentioned use a lot of lubricant.

Check a couple body shops they do glass oif you have not tried them yet.

I had a small glass shop an asked them if they would install my glass and how much would it cost me.

They said bring the car over and they would put it in for "free" if they could use it in there ads and I said go for it.

Took them maybe 11/2-2 hr. and that was a new windshied and the orignal back window.

That was 5 years ago.

On the price you got quoted all I can say is Run forest Run

I had a glass shop come to my house, and install a windshiled in a late 70s Fury for $45, but those use the buytl like our rear glass.

Keep looking around. There are still some honest glass workers out there. I had both front and back glass put in the Mod Top this spring for $100 each. If you do decide to try it yourself, make sure you have the moldings ready to go on when you put the back glass in. My bad experience with glass was the glass was not set deep enough in one corner and the moldings would not go on. Had to take it back out and re-install.:brickwall:

I found a local auto glass company that is going to do my glass. It's a mom and pop shop that's been in business locally for a long time.
When I'm ready for glass, they are going to install my door glass, as well as windshield. My rear window has a zipper....:drive:

The bummer is that I have to transport the car there and back, which dings the pocket.
