Hey Bob, can you give us a quick how-to on how to do those headlight bezels? :worship:
Sure. If the part is zinc to start with I should clean up like new unless rust got through the zinc. Get a plastic container to pour the muriatic acid into (pool acid) follow the warnings on the acid bottle its nasty to breath, use outside. Simply set the part in the acid and if its zinc it will almost appear to boil. When it stops usually in 5 minutes remove with long nose pliers and rinse in water and dry asap it will flash rust if not. If there was no rust you can then use Eastwoods zinc plate kit to recoat the part, if there was rust it must be cleaned to bare metal or you will have dark spots. You can use the acid on alot of parts even rusty ones, an overnight soak will kill and remove rust, it will leave pitting where the rust was!

I've used muriatic acid for years to clean parts - terrific for suspension components which always seem to have a ton of crud and or rust on them. This stuff is great for cleaning metal in general - it's actually used in the pickling of steel prior to subsequent manufacturing processes such as extrustion or galvanizing. As Bob noted be prepared for flash rust after rinsing.

I'd add a bit to Bob's instructions for the uninitiated however. Muriatic acid is just another name for hydrochloric acid - so it's nothing to be taken lightly. Wear rubber gloves when working with it. Introduce and remove parts slowly from the solution to avoid splashing this stuff on you or on anything else for that matter. Rinse anything with water that it might accidently come into contact with it. Just remember it is HCL and don't think of it as just another chemical that you just dump into your pool. Okay, I'm off of my safety soap box...

Got a little work done today, headliner insulation, spash shields, wind shield washers, finished the dash insulation. And John the washers were plated with zinc, another use for the kit. I did the screws clips and squirters.

Next weekend I should be ready to undercoat those sexy wheel wells  Time to go out and clean torsion bars and the tranny mount, e-brake, and finish the airgrabber.
