markings under my deck lid

[1969X9]

Under my deck lid is marked RED F70 14 I'm guessing it has something to do with the tires and toms

Looks like a red line tire, is it actually spelled out like that and do you have the broadcast sheet? Maybe a pic Mine shows 70X but the wheels were blue, the X makes me wonder if the guy was just checking off that the tire was put in and the proper 70 series tire as in an inspection mark. X usually means black, Mike A12 had some discussion going over on the "LOH" lift off hood site trying to nail this down.

why would they write red and print F70.....is that what they did back then or did somebody add that later on??

Im not sure I wonder if red is for redline tires F70 for firestone 70 tires and 14 for rim size

I don't recall that script... Where was the car built? (6th digit of the VIN). I'm with George and wonder if it was added at some point after it was built?

Lynch road, I was talking to a knowledgeable mopar guy this morning he believes its refering to the spare only

.......'68 came standard with F70-14 tires with either white or red stripes. The grease pencil marking inside the PP-1 Matador Red trunk lid was scribbled by the Lynch Road line workers as a trigger to make sure the car was equipped with an F70-14 Red Streak spare tire. This way it'd match the rest of the tires. With the optional chrome Magnum 500 wheels, this red Runner was a stunner.

.......In the trunk of this '69, we spotted hand-scrawled grease pencil markings similar to the red '68 in this roundup. But this car's mark reads 70W, indicating it was originally built with white line tires-a no-charge alternative to the Red Streaks.

Yeah - a line worker just like it says in Harold's post right above yours. This is extremely common. Can't believe you guys haven't seen this before. No different than grease pencil markings on a valve cover or a "Paint OK" stamp on the fender or core support. Just standard assembly line markings.

Here's a pic of the underside of Bambi's trunk lid showing the markings for the spare. G70 15 Red Line. No idea what the SKX/SHY/SHX/SKY (or whatever the hell it is) markings are for...It's been seen on other A12's also but no one seems to know what it was for...
