Ok you guy's know that I have the 383 car with the roadrunner transmission. Working on getting it in and cleaned up the Hurst shifter I bought. So It look's like I would have to push away from me and up for first straight down for second. Then two me up for third then down to forth. All the way from me and up for revers. Dose this sound right. The trans mission numbers are PP833 2814 0004 Up above that on the stamp plate is 9138417. The only thing I could find to reference was on U Tube but that transmission had the shifter at the end of the tail shaft and mine is up front. Any ideas would be appreciated. Russ.

My 383 is a 68 as is my car. I've got them written down somewhere but Can't locate the numbers off my A833 without climbing under right now and don't know if there visible. I've looked it up in the past when it was out of the car and mine is originally out of an early 80s dodge truck or van. it's an overdrive with 1st gear 3.09-1 2nd 1.69-1 3rd 1-1 and 4th .75-1 1st gear is up and so on but my reverse is down or to the rear. I also have a Hurst and it's location is driver side more towards the front than rear.
In rebuilding my car, YouTube is certainly hit and miss, mostly miss. I've found more useful information on this site looking up old posts and asking a few new question.

Thanks Rumrunner. Yes just about got it figured out. This car had a 727 put in it instead of the four speed that was in it when built. So just trying to put it back like it came from the factory. Things are becoming more in line as I go. Putting the trans. in the car today. The shifter is not wanting to go into revers. Got a kit to rebuild it. Appreciate the help.

?????? Here is the shift pattern.

69 only has one location for the shifter. 70 and up has 2 locations for the shifter to mount to. This change was made for E bodies.

So now with the motor in. Started to install the A833 trans. It would not go all the way in. Found out the hole in the crank is not deep enough. The trans. input shaft is too long and will have to cut it off some so it will fit. Any ideas would be appreciated. Look's like about a half inch too long.

One thing to check, I was helping my buddy put his trans in his 67 Dart, trans wouldn't go like your saying, got to checking things and the clutch disc had the wrong cut onto the spline, had to pull the disc back out, we had just assumed it was right one

My crank was bad on the second main bearing. So my motor guy got me this one. never thought to ask when he put it in if the hole was deep enough and he did not as. He knew I was putting a four speed manual in but must have slipped his mind on the hole depth. I did not think of it either so who is to blame. Thanks 69hemibeep that is what I was thinking also. You confirmed it. Yes droptop that is a good idea also. Look's like their is enough shaft left in the pilot bushing for the shaft to be supported over a half inch will be in the bushing. Wont be racing so should not be that much pressure on it I hope. LOL. Good advice for sure. Will let you guy's know when I get it in. Appreciate all the info. :thumbsup2:

Thanks RKNRLR. Mine look's like the 64-5 B. Always good to get more info on the products we are working on. Got my shim plates though the shift doctor. They have the rebuild kit for them.

Got the shaft cut off yesterday. Kept it cool when cutting with wet rag. Put about 30 degree angle on the end for about an 1/8 inch. So it will go in the bushing. So third try hope it goes in today. The crawling under and out is getting old. Wish me luck that this is old saying third time is a charm. LOL. Thanks for all the info and help.

I removed and re-installed my engine with the tranny hooked up. Strait forward. A few start ups later, my ring gear started spinning free without moving the flywheel.
Removing and re-installing the four speed when the car is 16 inches off the ground is no fun.
Good Luck!

Got tires on 4x4's and jack up the driver's side to make it a little better. Still not enough room. Got a guy offered me a lift to day used for 1500. Just don't have a place to put it right now. That is the way it goes. LOL.

So here is another question on the trans. mount. I had an automatic in the car when buying it. Now found out the support bracket is wrong. But after looking at it looks like I could cut the plate out on top so the support would bolt in to it. It has one hole for the rubber mount and two bigger ones for the nuts to go to the stud's on the trans. So if I cut of that cage and cut out the plate so the isolator can go in. Should I beef up something or will it be ok. Look's like every thing would work if I do this. Can't find a picture of it online.

The one I have look's like it was made for non automatic but was converted at the factory for automatic. The holes in the bottom are all their. So could save money by just cutting off the auto. junk and open up the hole to except the trans. rubber mount. Could do it in about an hour instead of spending more money.
