So now with the motor in. Started to install the A833 trans. It would not go all the way in. Found out the hole in the crank is not deep enough. The trans. input shaft is too long and will have to cut it off some so it will fit. Any ideas would be appreciated. Look's like about a half inch too long.

Had same problem. Got a super deal on crank just back from machine shoppe. Assembled engine, putting trans on (thank goodness still out of car). Automatic crank is NOT clearanced for pilot bushing. Oops! Pulled crank had shoppe bore it, now in car and running decent. I would suggest not cutting input shaft. Bite the bullet and do it right. I just spread sweetness and light wherever I go. :BangHead:

Too late Coyote. Cut the in put shaft. Would have to take the motor back out of car and take the motor apart and did not want to go through that headache. So it is done. Thanks' for the info. Figured this car is not going to need work before I bite the old bullet.

And Russ, I apologize for giving false info on a shifter question you had on a hurst shifter post. This is the A833 four speed overdrive out of a mid 80's truck or cargo van. The shifter is obviously towards the rear, not the more to the front as I misstated .upload_2021-3-11_11-11-24.jpeg

Ok you guy's know that I have the 383 car with the roadrunner transmission. Working on getting it in and cleaned up the Hurst shifter I bought. So It look's like I would have to push away from me and up for first straight down for second. Then two me up for third then down to forth. All the way from me and up for revers. Dose this sound right. The trans mission numbers are PP833 2814 0004 Up above that on the stamp plate is 9138417. The only thing I could find to reference was on U Tube but that transmission had the shifter at the end of the tail shaft and mine is up front. Any ideas would be appreciated. Russ.
Your shift pattern is more a function of the shifter then the transmission. The A833 is drilled and tapped for front mounted and rear mounted shifter. The front mount is always used for B Bodies. The shifter should be a Hurst Competition Plus.

Thanks MoparDan. It is all in the car and work's as it should. Have the old styled Hurst shifter. No bolt's to set how far the shift pattern is. Had to order new shim plates and the spring plate. Now it work's like a charm. Appreciate you helping. Russ.
