Would it be possible to make this to plug in without cutting a factory harness? Maybe at the most pull the terminals from the headlight plugs and move them to a male/female plug set of some sort?

Problem is size of the wire. Need a bigger one if boost the power to the headlights, which the normal wiring harness will not support.

Why not get some of these new fangled lights that are brighter and take less voltage ?

i didnt increase the size of the wires and it works great.....the only thing the switch does is turn it on and off......all the juice goes directly to the relay so you dont lose the volts

I've added relays to the headlights on my 300. It's a good mod.

The only thing I would suggest is using a circuit breaker instead of the fuses.

Has any one gone to Led lights yet. This looks like a good idea will add this info to my folder that keeps getting bigger. Thanks for the tip George. :beep:

This is such a simple mod there is no good reason not to do it.
If for no other reason than to get the load off of the headlight switch.
Oh and seeing better too.:beep:
I had a wiring problem and it motivated me to do it.
Here's the prints on the A body I did.
It's my commuter and I drive at night.
(No comments on the THHN wire. It's 90C but I had it. And I used 125 C heat shrink on it.)
See the bottom of the prints where I modified them.
I know there is some discussion about fuse verses circuit breakers.
If someone chooses CBs under the hood, be sure they are water proof.
Marine maybe.
I went with water proof fuse holders because I figure they are more reliable than a mechanical CB in a bad environment.
And cheaper.
If someone doesn't want to cut their existing harness, just realize that all this wire can be "added" to the car and you can leave your original wires in place. The only thing is you have to get the control wires to your dimmer switch someway if you don't want to cut them.
I like keeping circuits separated and not wrapping them all up in the same run anyway.
My alternator wire is by itself.
Yes.
Bigger wires from the relays to the bulb sockets are not absolutely necessary.
But IF you are putting new sockets in, might as well.
It's all old anyway.
I put in ceramic sockets on this car just case I ever wanted to change to H4(?) instead of my 7 inch sealed beams that I have a pile of.
I shopped on Amazon and bought the best deals on what I needed.

I should mention to crimp AND solder connections.

The only thing I can tell you is what I read about the LED headlights.
Most are "junk".
Again I know know nothing except what what I read.
But the good ones (they say) still cost 300-400 dollars a pair.
Forget that.
And with this "upgrade" you DO NOT need them IMO.
Now I did put Phillips 194LEDs in my instrument back lights.
They are well worth the money.
