This is a rather lengthy article, but I believe you'll all enjoy reading through it. I sheds some light on this subject... and just how crazy it was to build these cars
Road Runner (and SuperBird)...
Sounds like there are a lot of us out there that would really love to get hold of some "realistic" data on numbers of specific production types... for example how many 1969 Ivy Green post-cars with 383's; 4-speed; décor package; nothing power and bench seats were built and are still out there...
Not for sure certain, but that car does look very similar to one for sale a while back on one of the internet sites. Typically Road Runners that come up for sale, that have obviously had the daylights raced out of them don't do too well and also many have had the interior completely destroyed...
If you go on sites like cars-on-line and other similar sites, there are a lot of 68-70 Road Runners for sale. I am always amazed at the number of convertibles still out there. Most say they have received a full (down to the bare metal) restoration, but most don't have any supporting photo proof...
Depends on the size and build of the engine. I have a 509 stroker in my Road Runner and use Joe Gibbs 15-50 Racing Oil. It is an all around good product and you don't have to have a full on race engine to use it. I'm not racing my car, but it is such a high performance engine, that I decided to...
235/60/15 for the front and 275/60/15 on the rear with the stance set as basically stock look really nice. Here is my 69 Road Runner with those size tires on 15 inch black Craggars. The tires are Diamond Back custom made using BFG's They are pricy, but the only way to get this size redline's.
My first Mopar was a 57 Plymouth Furry with a monster engine. Had it for a short time toward the end of high school, then traded it for a motor cycle just prior to going into the Army (then on to Vietnam for two tours). My second Mopar was a 58 Plymouth Furry purchased in late 1968 as a "go to...
I had intended to go with aftermarket seats (front and back) until it was discovered the buckets; fold-down center armrests, and rear seat were all original to the car, so the decision was made to retain the seats and rebuild them with side bolsters all the way around, including the rear seat...
The front bucket seats, and fold-down armrest, and the rear seat are original to the car. I found pieces of the build sheet in the underside of the back bottom seat, that was discovered by the interior guy while taking the seats apart. Turns out this was a "Special Order" car that was priced at...
Interesting reading through all these posts about the 68 Road Runner going back to the original owner. So rare to hear of such a thing, but I'm sure the original owner would have to be very excited. I tried for years to track down my original 69 Road Runner. I never kept any records, and for any...
Here's a shot of the back seat. I don't have a photo of the package tray, but the interior guy did a fantastic job designing and constructing the package tray as he did with the door and rear side panels as well. The seats and fold-down center armrest are original to the car. they were stripped...
I mistakenly sent the same photo twice!! But the interior came out really nice and the carpet is a deep cut plush that works well with the rest of the interior
You can "just barely" see it, but there is a single black longitudinal strip that runs the length of the car. Back in the day the stipes would typically be part of a décor package or just an added detail through the dealership. My original Road Runner came with dual white strips (quarter inch...
Almost forgot to add a photo of my Ivy Green Road Runner. The car has not yet been polished or waxed and you can see it looks pretty darn good, so really think this through before you select the color.
That is correct, rubber gasket only used on the windshield. My Road Runner was originally Ivy Green. When I purchased it the color was B5 blue. Under the blue was orange and under the orange another coat of blue and finally down to the original Ivy Green. I had a 69 Road Runner back in 1969...
Looking good and congrats for the win. All the events here in California are being canceled one by one. I believe the Good Guys event scheduled for the first weekend in April is also on the chopping block for cancelation, and that one brings a huge crowd and typically about 2500 to 3000 cars. I...
