OK, I've removed the dash cluster, tested the fuel gauge and it's working, tested continuity from tank to gauge cluster connection and there is continuity, when I bench test sending unit it shows very close to the correct ohm range, I've added a grounding from the tank to the frame and a ground...
I have been mustering all the "patinas" I have!
thanks for the advice.
1st pic about six months in, next ones current, about 4yrs, so far.
Car needs serious detailing right now. I'll get some more pics when it's clean.
I've been from time to time, and spent a lot of time trying to get my fuel gauge to work.(years) off and on. And I've asked the forum for ideas before and believe me I tried all the suggestions.
There has been a lot of time put into this.
At first when I hooked up a wire from the battery ground...
Thanks for the response.
Taking a break on a Saturday from trying to remove the punch out holes for the clips. Had to remove the holes for the armrests first and yes, what a pain in the ass. They need to be removed with out damaging the the face.
I wonder if anyone at the factory has ever tried...
I started to put the clips in the door panel and noticed a slight bulge on the face where I put it.
I'm hesitant on using the clips now. I don't want permanent adhesive to glue them on because as soon as I do, for some unforeseen reason I'll need to remove them. I'm kinda thinking on using the...
Still waiting on the nut-serts to arrive. I'm pre-fitting the door panels and it not quite strait forward. (Surprise)
I started to size them and a lot of the holes in the door seem correct for matching, but on the top of the door there are slots instead on hole like on the rest of the door. The...
I finally, found someone who actually makes door panels. PG Classic. I got four panels for less than I was trying to pay other vendors for two.
They said it would take up to five weeks, I got them in two. They look great!!
My next hoop, I need the hardware to attach the rear armrests. The front...
I know this topic has been covered. I even had some questions when installing mine.
I was just looking on utube and got sidetracked on "fuel vapor separators".
I was a little surprised when I saw almost all of the mechanics (who sound like they know stuff) have their separators laying...
I have a 68. If the fuel gauge and the temp gauge are both not working it could very possible be the voltage limiter is the problem as both gauges use the same one. To replace this you do not need to remove the dash. Just contort your body under the driver side dash on the floor and with a flash...
Hope all is well with you, you're family and property in Florida.
All my components, wiring and connections seem to work or test good but when I hook it together, nothing. No movement in the gauge at all.
Tanks Inc.? I'll look it up.
Also, the sending unit I just purchased (third one) is a...
VRD, thank you for the information.
I have ran as a test, a wire from the battery ground to the outlet of the sending unit and still nothing.
This was done with the sending unit out of the gas tank.
I asked this question on another link and got good advice. thanks. Here's the deal.
My fuel gauge has never worked. First thing I did was get a new fuel sending unit, nothing. Had other problems and didn't work on this but from time to time. I have spent about fourteen hours (beer breaks) with...
Thanks for your quick responses.
I've check the continuity each time I approach this issue and it is good.
Just now checked the ohms on the sending unit. Low was 9 and high was 76.
1,000 grit sand paper a few times and low is now .3 and high is 75 so it did make a difference.
Of course I...
I've been doing a nuts and bolt restoration for three years now. Of course I have a life to fill the gaps.

After a three year build on my 68, The only leak (and it's very small) is out of the neutral safety switch.
It didn't have an O-ring after the rebuild so I added one and it still leaked. I spent quite some time on this and finally gave up. The cupped washer must be the difference.
I asked the...
I agree about metal over plastic however it takes out the issue of making sure (positive) the separate gaskets are aligned and the pressure distributed very evenly.
It was an easy install.
I don't remember any groves in the pan or the block, could've been, but there is no leaks.
I was a little...
