Wheel hop!

Morning Y’all!

Before I get into details of my specific situation, what may be some causes for some pretty severe wheel hop? I’d like to have some uninfluenced thoughts before I divulge the conditions of my setup. Thanks!!!

I`ve never had wheel hop in an old Mopar. Wheel hop is usually caused by worn suspension components - bushings, weak springs, bad shocks etc.

I’ve changed the shock absorbers, I guess I’ll go down the list and change the leaf springs next. It has stock 5 leaf, for it’s original 383; but it’s got a 440 now, so I’m going with the 440/hemi springs with the 6 and 7 leaves.

I have a 383 4spd in my RR and I replaced the rear leaf springs and shocks last week. I went with the 6 (left side) and 7 (right side) setup and I can tell you from personal experience it works as engineered back in the late 60s. Wheelhop doesn't exist. I endorse the 6/7 leaf spring setup.

Actually no and the weird thing is the left leaf spring was broken. I'll attach a picture.

Breaker, breaker-over! I hope the new leaf springs solve my issue. I just replaced the shocks with KYB, but I guess I’ll move to coil overs next if the springs don’t fix it? I’m missing rear crossmember reinforcement pieces, under the bumper brackets. I hope those aren’t a factor in this.

Your not missing anything, those and torque boxes came on Hemi cars. Not a bad addition but not necessary.

And, don't forget to check to make sure you have a pinion snubber or it just didn't deteriorate and fall off.

I do have the original one on there. My buddy let me borrow an adjustable one that he shaved so I’d have 1” clearance. It worked great to eliminate the hop, I just don’t like it hitting the floor during normal street driving.
