thinking out loud

My wife and I were in upstate NY returning from a fishing trip when we pulled into a Maplefields for coffee and gas , just as we were getting ready to head out lord and behold , a blue 69 roadrunner scoots right in to the pump next to us . The poor guy must of thought we were nuts the way we ran over to check out his ride and bombard him with questions. Luckily he was a very nice fellow who didn't mind chatting with complete strangers who took an interest in his car , he said it happens all the time . After a good fifteen minuets we parted ways ,but not before our new friend preformed a complementary burnout for us on his way out , not a problem with that badass 440 under the hood .

So this encounter got me thinking , what are the odds of running into this guy ? come to think of it , how many roadrunners have I spotted over the years ? I can say with all honesty only about 5 or 6 , that includes the one in new York . To me that's amazing , only 5 or 6 in the past 30 years . I know upstate Vermont is a bit in the boondocks and I don't get out of town very much but even with our local car show ,The Stowe Antique Car Rally, google it ,I've only seen one in all the years I've been going there , granted I don't go every year . So where are all these roadrunners hiding out , other then this roadrunner forum ? We did attend the national hot rod show last year here in Burlington VT but no roadrunners . tons of Fords ,Chevelles and rat rod types but very few Mopars . I don't know if that makes us roadrunner owners special or just oddballs . Maybe I just need to get out more , maybe when our car is done we'll bring it to some out of state shows and then we'll start to see more of them . I heard that there are some shows that cater to only Mopars , supposedly hundreds of them , that would be something to see ! I know they made a lot of roadrunners, how many 69 roadrunners do you think are still out there ?

just thinking out loud, no big deal.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. It is true we are odd balls. NOT!!!! Just owners of the most desirable muscle car. However, you will soon find out when you get your runner back on the road, you'll get a lot of people wanting you to pull over so they can look at it. Road Runners will turn a lot of heads. Just today after pushing mine out of the garage, I had a police officer stop at my house. I was in the garage swiping the floor and did not notice him looking at the car. Come to find out he is also a old car lover, he has a 56 and 57 Chevy's. He also comments that he has not seen too many Road Runners and when he saw mine he had to stop. We chatted awhile swapped tech info before he left.

Yes, there are clubs that have Mopar only shows around the country. In CT we have 5 shows during the year. We have about 290 members currently and average between 95 to 115 cars at our shows. And of course if you haven't heard about it there is the east coast show at Carlisle, PA where they have well over 2000 cars and several hundred vendors, all Mopar. Go back and look for our Carlisle threads.

I will look into the big mopar meet in Philadelphia , 2000 cars wow ! but Connecticut is way closer and something my wife and I could attend no problem ,like to know a little more about that one as well . It would be great to mingle with other roadrunner owners , I'm assuming you have some roadrunners at your meet ?

Geez.. there were three or four at the cruise night I went to last week.

You need to get to some all Mopar shows. There's a good one in Syracuse, NY in July and try to make it to Carlisle next year. I know it's a long trip, but it will be worth it for you.

I didn't know there was one in Syracuse ,we were just up that way . The guy with the blue roadrunner we ran into said something about a meet over at Lake George NY that he just went to , said it was pretty cool , burnouts on main street and that sort of stuff.

There usually are some there. We have a show next Sunday but I'm bringing one of my A-Bodys to this show. You can check out our club here www.moparinmotion.com

The Syracuse and Liverpool NY shows are both doable and look awesome and that's not a word I use to often , thanks for the info . Can I ask while I have your attention , does anyone here on the sight or anyone you know actually enter these shows , I'm really interested.

So we're on the same page, there is the Syracuse Nationals, a very large all makes show that caters to street rods. Then there is the Liverpool Mopar show. Liverpool is a suburb of Syracuse and many refer to that show as the Syracuse Mopar show.

So... yea, I know a bunch of people that enter the show. I used be very involved with the club that puts it on. It's a well run show in a really nice park next to the water. Even the food is good. It is participant judging, no real judges on the field and there are pros and cons to that. I think they do about 300 cars and yes, that's all Mopars.

Interesting avaitar Tom :D I have mine because Oddball is from one of my favorite movies, and my Uncle looks (and acts) alot like Oddball.
yeah I don't see too many old cars period around here. My buddy that is painting mine, lives a couple miles from me, and his '69 is the only other road runner I see. I here of a few others, but never see them. I know of several old mopars around here, but they never come out of the garage. There is a large local show we go to, all makes, that gets almost 3000 cars.

My son lives in the city (Richmond Va.). I was visting him just last week and was crossing the road and looked to my right before crossing and there at the stop light was a purple 68 roadrunner turning right. I felt like running him down to ask questions, but I'm too old for that and he was too far away. And just like that he was gone.......

Maybe its like your oblivious to a particular car until you own one , then you start seeing them on every street corner .

While they are nowhere near as common as the quintessential belly button car ('69 Camaro), I've never exactly noticed a shortage of them either... There is a Tuesday night cruise-in 5 mins from my house. Always 2 or 3 RRs there...3 or 4 if I take mine...
