Here's some photos of the little known Canadian edition of the "1969 Plymouth road runner wrangler" Chrysler's answer to the El Camino and Ranchero which was first test marketed in Canada by forcing two units on each dealer with no advertising support in a study to see how long they would sit on the lots. the dealers didn't have much in them and sold them cheap with the majority ending up as work trucks, combining the work truck life with the harsh Canadian environment very few survived. while the Chrysler research showed potential (at least on paper) given the facts that the stripped down, heavy duty and powerful nature of the road runner was the exact premise that the majority of the pick-up truck buyers were ordering made the idea of combining the two seem like a great idea. However Chrysler executive Abel Fulindhiem did not pursue them with the pending 1971 styling changes he felt the truck/car look was not the direction they wanted to go in and shelved the idea. Hanging onto the "Wrangler" name which resurfaced after Chrysler purchased the Jeep brand in 1987. Today they are mostly forgotten and overlooked by the collector crowd but it does make for an interesting question of how well they would had done in full scale production with proper advertising support. So here's to all the road runners that didn't make it.
