That looks like the fusible link.
Feeds everything inside.
If the wires are good, you can get 56 type "Packard" connectors and replace each as necessary.
The trick to removing the old male connector from the plug is to snip the tip into two pieces with dikes from the face of the plug.
Each side section will then come out.
Fusable link wire is available at any auto parts store.

View attachment 28890 Never changed one on road runner but autos also had fuse wires once upon a time. Blended right in with harness wiring and usually resoldered in place. They would burn up, different colors determined amperage.
