Well, I've been on the job a week now and so far it has been a-ok. It was almost a drop-in fit for me - like the job was made for me. I heard about what happened to the guy I replaced. I guess he and the bosses got into a "disagreement" and they let him go. He'd been there 11 years! I have to give him credit, though. He really knew how to organize things and the system he put in place is a really good one.
My computer that I built is running like a champ, although I had to replace the 6 core cpu I had bought for a 4 core because the motherboard only supports 95 watt cpu's and doesn't support 125 watt cpu's (which is what the 6 core is). No biggie - I bought another 4 core cpu for the work system and then I decided to do some work here at home to get this computer ready to take the 6 core bad boy. It is in here now and running like a scalded dog! I took the 4 core cpu out of this computer and put it in the work system and retired the 4 core cpu I just bought and am keeping it for a spare (or maybe I'll give it to my brother when it comes time to upgrade his system).
I have also been learning the Civil 3D 2010 software and customizing the menus similar to the way I had them in the past. Just trying to get comfortable again. So far - so good.
I any event, all is well and it is good to be back in the civil engineering CAD design game.

Glad you are enjoying it.......I use Solidworks a lot. Not sure if you are familiar with it but I love it. Been using it now for about 10 years. Again, glad you are enjoying it. Nothing like having a job you don't like.

Just don't argue with the boss :jester:

Boy, you've got that right! So far the big wigs have been nothing but very supportive.
I have never used Solid Works - no need on the civil side to use it. I have never used all the fancy bells and whistles in the Civil 3D or Land Development Desktop (LDD) modules, either. We just use what we need to get the job done as quickly as possible. My biggest complaint with AutoDesk is that they provide you with, and charge your for, a freaking Ferrari when all you need is just a Chevy Malibu :jester: (couldn't resist using that one). There are so many options in Civil 3D now that it is almost impossible now to keep track of it all. It is just about as much work running the program as it is doing the design work.
