Standard 383 vs 383 roadrunner engine

I have a 69 383 4 speed roadrunner. I was told everything is original but the engine. They said it is a correct engine but not numbers matching. That's fine, kept the cost down.
My question is are the internals, crank rods pistons....., the same in a standard 383 as in a 69 roadrunner engine just add the cam HP heads and exhaust manifolds? I can see red, turquoise and hemi orange on the block. I want to replace the intake carb cam and add headers but not rebuild the whole engine unless the internals are not real roadrunner engine internals. Thanks

Rotating assembly is the same with a windage tray added between the oil pan and block

Dose the motor have the RM in the serial number on the block.

No RM. 2468130 11 is all I see.

Windage tray, camshaft, carb, and exhaust manifolds are the biggest items. I believe the advance weights are different in the distributor also.

Don't forget higher compression. I believe it was about 10.1 to 1. The 383 Road Runner engine (68-70) was very different beast than the standard 383's, even the 4bbl versions. A well tuned stock RR engine would leave no doubt in your mind you were driving a high performance muscle car. Many Goodyear Polyglass tires went up in smoke in my original 70 Road Runner ;)

All 4 barrel 383's in 68-69 were 10:1. The 2 barrel engines were 9.2:1 Compression started it's downward trend in 70.

I got a non number matching 383 in my car. Don't think that will hurt the price of the car in the end. Motor's do blow up and have many other problems. So sometimes a different motor will be put in a car. So that being said watching the car restore show's with LS motors and all being put in them. They bring in a good price. The cam, heads, intake, carb, exhaust, windage tray make up the 383 Roadrunner engine. I have ridden in a challenger with a 383 Magnum and what a difference. Is a 383 Magnum the same as a 383 Roadrunner engine?

Yeah them LS motors will give you the power and performance but I like the old school originality and looks and the sound of the old combustible engines at least you don't have to be a certified mechanic to work on it

If interested let me know here.
The heads might need some work, but it'll run like a camp when you get it on the road. I'll be moving soon, 1 year 1-1/2, I have no use, you can get it on the cheap.

No. The difference between the magnum and roadrunner engine is the cams. The magnum just had a 383 cam where as the RR has the 440 cam (a bit thumpier).

There was also the positive deck height pistons that raised the compression just a bit when Plymouth changed to the open chamber heads. Doubt those could be found any longer and not many will even remember the trivia.

Had our annual base picnic yesterday and I was barely beat out for best of show by a 67 Camaro RS with a modern LS-3. Guess I am going to have to beef up my engine and engine bay. Staying old school 383 that is.

I just happened to by a Charger with a non matching two barrel 69 383 in it.
So, I put a 440 in the Charger had the 383 rebuilt.
I feel it was a good price too.
That engine will go in my 69 RR and I'll save the matching engine like that.
I'll get around to doing that some day.
It just made sense to keep it looking right.
I'm only going to go so fast anyway.
