When I was a kid my dad use to go to a station that had the manual pump's. We would pump the fuel to the glass globe which measured the gallon's then put it into his 51 ford truck. The gas was red led in one pump and the other was white gas. Neat pic's brings back memories of day's gone past.
The entire Route 66 from Chicago to California is on my bucket list. Might include it on my retirement vacation. We plan to take a train from Chicago to Seattle. Then rent a convertible and drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego. At that point, it would be feasible to take Route 66 home. Will see how it plays out when the time gets a little closer. In the mean time, back to work.
I drove RT66 from LAX to CHI many years ago, but unfortunately, a lot of it no longer exists, other than a few historic markers. It's demise is the result of the interstate system.
