I got my car back today! This is my first car restoration, and has been quite the learning experience.
I'm 95% happy and 5% pissed at the overall body and paint on my car.

The good:
I love the overall appearance over the car. The flat black stripes are badass!
I started with a total piece of crap and now I have a respectable bird.
The car is solid as a rock, and pretty straight.
I'm glad I went with undercoating.
I have a 69 vert with 68 doors, Goodmark quarter panels that were two different lengths (Chinese crap), AMD fenders, a Belvedere deck lid, and somehow it all came together pretty well.
I paid less in labor to have all my body and paint done than it would've cost to have my car painted in at a high end shop.

The bad:
-The rear drivers side quarter extension is off and I don't like it. The body guy tried and can't fix it to no avail. I'm sure my brother can make it right.
-The bottom of the door and the rocker panels are barely painted and look like shit.
-The inside of the quarter panels inside the trunk weren't painted.
-I found one tiny swiss cheese spot under the car.
-Under the hood the drivers side of the inner fender near the hood hinge should've been fixed and wasn't.
-I found a couple spots that could've been blocked and filled better.

I may be nitpicking but I want the car to be as close to perfect as possible. Considering how much work was done to the car, finding a couple things I don't like isn't the end of the world. You pay for what you get, and I got a lot more than I paid for, so that's a plus!

I already contacted a buddy that does paint. He's going to wet sand the car, and touch up all the areas I'm not happy with on the cheap.

I'm sure it will all work out, and I'm staying optimistic!

Here she is...

I ripped out the rear end right away. Plan on painting and installing new brakes and suspension this weekend.

Looks pretty damn good. V21 stripes are real nice. You should be able to fix all that minor stuff without affecting the paint. The bottom of the rockers and under the doors can be re-painted R4 using 3M foam tape which doesn't leave a paint line. Then take a gray scotch brite pad to the original clear to a break line. Now re-clear that whole area, color sand, buff, etc. Or a body shop could do it fairly cheap. I had to do the same thing to my car a couple of years ago. It is sure starting to look pretty!

That car does look great! It's amazing how quickly the body work and paint was done! You might want to slow things down a bit now so it's re-assembled correctly! But I bet that won't be easy as I'm sure you want to get it done and on the road as fast as you can!!

I'm making sure it's done right. I've come this far, I won't be half assing anything.
I bought POR15 for the rear axle this morning. I picked up my leaf spring set-up and suspension today too.
The plan is to get the rear end in POR with the new brakes and suspension and back in the car by Monday. Then on to rebuilding the front end....

That is my brothers 71 GTX cloned Satellite. It is a 440 +6 car now. It needs a little work but its a great driver. My dad gave us both of our cars. His was pretty much complete, mine not so much. He's put a lot of work into it over the past couple years. He's only 30 years old and can do just about anything on these cars. Mine would still be in a box without him.

Don't forget to topcoat the POR as it is sensitive to UV light and will turn white. I topcoat about 3 hours after applying the POR with Eastwood Chassis Black paint. It's a tough, satin black color that looks great and holds up well. 2 coats of Eastwood over 2 coats of POR-15 will keep it looking great forever!

That's good to know. I didn't know it needed a top-coat. I will definitely cover it up with a couple coats.

I appreciate the help.

Looks great! The rockers are one of my pet peives. I know for a fact that the rockers can be painted underneath and the parting line will be invisible (had to do it to one of my cars that I paid big money to paint) the swiss cheese is no biggy either. Just take the time now to fix the problems before it goes together. Looks fantastic overall!

I'm going to have the rockers checked out by the guy that's going to fix the couple paint flaws.
I feel like my body guy used too much dura-glass. The rear wheel wells have new metal and he packed em full of the shit. I was under the impression that he was going to weld in metal where things were swiss cheese but it looks like he glassed a lot of spots. They're undercoated now, so it doesn't matter I guess. I'm just a little pissed about it...

There's one spot on the inner fender near the drivers side hood hinge that looks bad and I'm going to have it fixed. See below...

The plan is to fix the few things I don't like as I'm putting her back together. We're making great progress so far. I really hope to have her on the road sometime in July. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!
