1. Do I need to put anything on the paper gasket?
2. Should the 2 bolts that secure the fuel pump have washers and/or lock washers?

Thanks!

No washers and a little of your favorite sealer won't hurt. Any more I pull the fuel pump rod out and inspect it for wear they seem to fail more than the pumps with today's oils it will act like a bad pump. I had a friend change three pumps before he believed me, each pump left him stranded in short order.

Those pumps are fine. I guess before I brought up push rod I should have asked what motor. On the big block there is a hex head plug in the block at the pump that if removed the rod will come out. It should be 3.22" long

Pump rod tends to wear enough that even if it looks correct it can be worn enough to cause problems working. It slopes down toward the pump by the way so it will try to fall out as you both remove it and try to put it back in.

if the pump rod keeps sliding out before you can put the pump on . put some grease on the rod so that it holds the rod long enough for you to put the pump in place . just a little trick i learned

Just had to replace the fuel pump on my 69 383-4 Road Runner. In a storage building. Forgot about the fuel pump rod but finally remembered. I got my replacement from Rock Auto. I was surprised that they had the same pump as referenced by my 69 Chrysler parts manuals right down to the same part number. And for only $23 and change.

For the first time in my life I experienced vapor lock last June. It was hot, we were in line at a drive through, it's Florida. The car was restored by Legendary in Canada but I suspect the fuel line routing is not stock. It should be tubing from the fuel filter rubber hose to the carburetor but it's all rubber and the routing takes it across the side of the block then across the intake manifold which doesn't help in keeping the fuel from vaporizing. I'm trying to find a prefabricated tubing replacement. Anyone know where I might find such an animal? Otherwise I think I'm relegated to finding an original as a go-by for fabricating a replacement. Any help is appreciated.
