Rear Quarter Fit UP

I'm fitting the rear quarter on my 70 RR and noticed the front fits up to the wheel well nice and snug and will be able to plug weld. But as I go around the inside of the wheel well around the top and toward the back, the quarter has about 1 inch gap from fitting tight to the wheel well. I have seen this on other B bodies is this a normal thing? Does the top and the back of the inside of the wheel well not get welded to the quarter?

Skins or full quarters? I guess it really doesn't make much difference, but I just put two rear skins on my 68, the passenger side fit perfectly (with no gaps in the new outer wheel wells I had just installed) while the drivers side took a bit of work to even get close to fitment. Both ended up fitting snug on the wheel wells all the way around. The drivers side was a little too snug at the front, and I'm guessing that each car might be minutely different, or that the quarters are not perfect at times. I'm no body man, and maybe some body guys that have done a few B bodies might have more of a clue on that. Also don't have any idea how much experience you have with body work, but it might just need some persuasion? Are the outer wheel wells new, or original?

The quarter is a 3/4 skin includes the wells, I also put on new wheel wells or partials on. Even with the new quarter off and I lay the new wheel well inside it doesn't fit up tight still has the gap. Both sets are from AMD.

OK, so you are replacing the 'outer wheel well" as well. I'm taking it that you have not spot welded the wheel well on yet, if so, have you tried adjusting the wheel well? You might have to rotate CW or CCW the wheel well slightly to see if that helps. On mine, passenger side fit perfectly going by the original placement of the wheel well, but for some reason, the drivers side was a bitch, I ended up moving it counter clockwise almost 1 1/2 inches to get it somewhat close to a fit. Hope this reply is helpful, but sometimes you just have to make it work? :facepalm:

The old outer wheel well was cut and half of it was replaced with new coming out exactly where the old one was.

Chris was telling me that the new wheel well or trunk floor extensions I can't remember which, caused the quarter to bulge out at the bottom and not curl under like they should. Does this sound like what your running into?

No, the quarter fits nice to the wheel well and extensions, from the inside. The inside lip on the wheel well and the lip on the quarter is almost perfect in the front, then as you go up and over to the back they are almost an inch away, would make it difficult to weld.

I take it that the new piece of wheel well is already welded to the old one? You might just have to use more of the new one or old one that was cut off to extend to fit the quarter lip. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

And Bob, you are correct in the fact that the new outers seem to make the quarter bulge out. It's was really tough to get the front of the quarter to meet the bottom of the rocker panel. Either that, or the fenders are not quite as tall as they should be??? But everything else was a walk in the park with mine. Don't remember if mine were AMD or not, but they came from Year One.

I had Year One skins put on mine last summer and AMD trunk extensions. Fit like a glove as far as my body guy said.

I have good fit on the quarter to the extension, (no bulge) I can pull the bottom of the quarter to the rocker, it just looks as if the wheel well of the skin is a little larger then what it should be. I cut the outer wheel well as discribed in one of the Mopar Muscle posts and welded it in and matched up perfect to the front rocker and had all the measurments for the back of wheel well line up to where it should be. I'll put the quarter back up this weekend and maybe be able to take a couple of pics as to what I have going.
