What would I expect to pay for Labor for the replacement of the rear main seal in my 69 440.

a bunch, either have to take the engine out of the car , or take half the front suspension apart to get to the oil pan and then the seal

Man TOMRR thought you just rebuilt that motor. Why do you think the rear main is leaking buddy. Seems like every one is having this problem. I remember replacing the one in a 440 we raced but not that often. I mean we drove the hell out of that car. Other cars I had Chevy and Ford replaced them but these car's where old when I bought them. Well if you do it your self you will save money. Just don't get frustrated while doing the job. Yes have to pull some thing's out of you way to get the oil pan off or to get too some bolt's here and their. But when you get it done you will know it was done rite. :thumbsup2:

Thanks Russ, I did just have it rebuilt, I know for sure its not valve covers. It drips after engine stops about a half dollar spot of oil and then stops. oil drops off the fly wheel cover. I added a bottle of Blue devil stop leak to the oil , need to drive to see if that helps and I know if it does that is only a band aid !!

Sorry to here of your luck. Did they The rope packing or the neoprene seal. I like the rope over the neoprene it seemed to want to move more than the rope packing. For what the mechanic's want now day's maybe you can find a local guy that dose this on the side. Oh that is a 440 motor right. As you read my 741 after putting all that money into it seems the spider gears are worn out. You cant get a new set of them so no more open gear going with a sure grip 742 if I can find one. Russ.

I have a 489 8 3/4 case you can have if you want to pay the shipping It is a sure grip and has 3:23 gears. The problem is it has a decelaration wine . Your call

Make sure it's not the oil pressure sender. It leaks, runs down and around the bellhousing and looks just like the rear seal is leaking. Lot's of rear seals have been replaced because the sender leaked.

If you end up having to replace, both 440 Source and Mancini Racing have replacement seals that are MUCH better than the factory unit.:beep:
