What color was the top and bottom layer on the oval filters as it came from the factory - black or orange?

The orange has been around for a while but I see the black is back for a limited time. Not cheap for sure.

Thanks.

I assume that you are talking about the filter element. Factory was orange. Black are replacements. Fram made a run several years ago in orange, but if I recall correctly, they had the wrong number of holes in the screens. Still a much needed part but the later run could be spotted by the trained eye from a mile away.

AZ Desert,
I have one of the old Frams for judged shows and a couple with screens to replace my driver element when it gets dirty. I'm willing to count holes if someone has a recently made one.

Thanks guys! Year one has made a "limited run" of air filters with round holes but the rubber is black and is $30 more. I always thought orange was factory and wonder why they would make a run with the incorrect color?

I got a couple of NOS filters from Tony a year back, he might still have some. Still in Box.

Perfect and thanks for the picture. Yes, the right is what is available. I need a driver filter anyway and 99% of the people can't tell the difference. I will try to hunt down a NOS one and see what they cost. I looked and the "limited run" black one, and does indeed have another row of holes. In fact comparing to the above, a 1/2 row more. https://www.yearone.com/Product/chrysler-b-body/ch81blk#prettyPhoto[part]/2/

And it is black! So not much more correct than the repop. Is that correct?

Thanks for the link. The hole pattern looks exactly like the original in one of the pictures. The first picture shows 3-1/2 rows like a repop, and the last picture shows 4 rows with one row split top and bottom as the original. I wonder which picture is more representative?
