So does anyone know what or how to get the toothed jack painted or what or how it was painted? I know it looks like bare silver steel but after media blasting it the silver came off so what silver is that? I thought about galvanized but unsure, I primered it now with a rust preventive to keep it from having to be done again.

Also is the stand and ratcheting part supposed to be black gloss or a satin flat?

This is late but better late than never if I remember The black was flat but the riser was some kind of plating that was cheap it was most likely a galvanize coating it was really bad. Well not much help but tried. Maybe some of the other guy's will help.

The jack was dipped in paint and the ones I've seen that were still original paint were not flat. They seemed to vary, I've seen some that were glossy, but a semi gloss will come pretty close. Spray it a little thick to make it look like it was dipped like the original.

Plating the (t shaped) shaft to original would be tough to do (and $$) and I doubt if you could get it to look right anyway. I've done them with paint and they've come out looking pretty decent. Try a steel type color, just don't put a lot of paint on it.

I agree with the above in that the base was pretty much a gloss finish. Fortunately, I have original jacks that have never been out of the cars and the base will vary between a true gloss to a semi gloss. The silver finish can be closely duplicated by moving the jack assembly to one end and painting up to the mechanism. Then move the mechanism to the other end and spray again. I have used the Seymour Dull Aluminum and it looks semi correct and easy to use. For the jack handle, they seem more to be a chassis black which is usually a 35% reduction.

Yes, the jack handle is usually a duller black than the rest. Again, it varies from car to car, so anything close is going to be "correct".

AZ Desert,
I got lucky here, mine had very little use and to nice to mess with. All the black parts seem to be semi gloss

Thanks guys got mine done but did put too much steel paint on it kind of gunked on the gear cogs but it works, probably shouldn't have used so much primer first don't think that help on the thickness. May re do it one day might even try to powder coat it.

Got the body, base and hook all done with a Matte black which is like hotrod black it creates a nice satin black finish so you get the kind of semi gloss look.

I haven't done the lug wrench yet waiting for my new blast cabinet to show up.
