How important its it for you to have your dad's old car? Or how important is it to own a car just like your dad use to own? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself before you open your wallet. If you want a car that looks the same and you want it up and driving right away you would be better off buying a similar car that is already finished and ready to go. It costs a lot more money restoring a car that you can imagine until you get into it. Most of the time it's a lot cheaper buying a finished project and you don't have to worry about a two year restoration turning into a 20 year ordeal.

Thank you for all your responses guys. I believe I am going to try to contact him later this week and see if he will take $15k for the car. Honestly if I have to pay more I will. This car is priceless to me. I'm sure I will have to put a small fortune into it to restore but it will be worth it to me in the the end. I just hope he will sell the car. Oh yeah, I found these pics of myself and the car when I was 2 years old haha. I'll be 31 this year. 20180912_183115.jpg 20180912_183115.jpg 20180912_183342.jpg

Go for it man. I have over a year in my restoration. But if most of the car is their you can make out for a lot less than what I am spending. It is hard to find some part's for the interior but think I have rounded it all up. Good luck try not to seem to excited about the car may be you can get him down some. Russ.

Well I finally got around to making the guy an offer on the car. He turned down $15k pretty quick! I thought that was a pretty fair offer on the car being that it will probably take 20k+ to restore correctly And you can pick up restored 383 auto cars for 30-35k all day. I told him to make me a price. Still waiting to hear what he says.

It don't take long to run up the bill on one. Even if you do the resto your self. If the resto is not too deep. Dose it run and drive. How much rust is in the car. Dose it have every thing with it. Do bumper's look good. Tail light bezels. How dose the trim look. Door handles. Lot of things to consider. Good luck keep us up on what is going on.

He says the car does run and drive. However the battery was dead when I went to look at the car so I didn't hear it run personally. But I trust the guy when he says it does. Honestly I didn't see any rust on the car at all. Pretty straight body. However some trim may need replaced, the interior is pretty rough as in the seats need replaced, headliner, cracked dash, etc.
I'm no expert on these cars by any means but is a matching numbers 383 car in its condition worth well over $15k?

I paid $9000 for mine in 2007. New interior, rebuilt engine, good frame, body except for the quarters. So I'd say yes.

I still would like to here the motor run. Has it been rebuilt. How many miles on the motor. You still could drop 20 k in the restore process. Like the one I got going to open the motor check it out top to bottom. Parts are not cheap. Good luck hope you guy's can make a deal.

Hard to say really. I can tell you what the book says if you total the vehicle or it gets stolen. But typically that has nothing to do with the sale price, or what one has into it when doing a restoration. The latter being my case, if I lose mine, I'll take a beating and a big one. Plus you have some sentimental attachment to this car, which the seller knows. I do agree with Russ, I'd like to hear it run. Assume you've looked underneath, in the trunk, and in-between. Whatever you buy it for I can almost guarantee you what you put into it, depending on what you want it to look like and how you want it to run, will be close to the price you paid for the car as it sits. This will also depend on what skill sets you possess if you intend on doing the work yourself.

You need to grab a good battery and see if you can get him to start it for you, then you need to crawl under it and inspect it a little closer. From your photos it looks to me that the right rear quarter panel has been replaced with a pre-AMD wide lip wheel well opening quarter panel. The radiator in not an original and a black painted engine compartment always needs a closer inspection IMO. Also did you check the engine to confirm it is the original 383 and did you check the radiator support and trunk drip rail for the VIN matching numbers there? With "no rust" and the right rear quarter to me looking like it's been replaced there's a chance the left has also been replace and the drip rail numbers missing. Just saying that the owner believes he has a numbers matching and is asking numbers matching price so check it out......hopefully it still is your dad's numbers matching Road Runner.........Good Luck, this is such a cool story and wish you the best. The photos of you in your dad's car are priceless and destiny IMO
