The car went to the shop down the street, the mechanic there called a couple days later and asked if the new flex plate had been delivered there because he couldn't find another... it had been and was now hanging on the wall in the office... because Dave knew it was the last one.. anywhere.
A happy ending

That's a good story John. Hanging on the wall like an award. Nice.

When I bought my car I had my family mechanic do a leak down test / inspection on it BEFORE finally
agreeing to purchase it (part of the deal, the previous owner was ok with it). After that was done
I was going to meet the owner of the car to discuss the findings and make any final arrangements for
the sale.

I spoke to my mechanic over the phone to tell him what I was up to. He said no problem, I could
haggle in his parking lot, but he was staying inside the shop office. He made a point of bringing
this up quickly. I asked him why. He said he has done these inspections before and one time the
results were so bad it lead to a fight in the parking lot. He wanted nothing to do with it.

Reading all of the stories on this thread this hobby can have some pretty tense moments.

It's a shame that you have to go through this kind of sh!t Sam. And it's the main reason I prefer to buy my cars already done and ready to go. I wouldn't have the patience to put up with this kind of stuff. It gets bad enough when I leave my car with the best Mopar mechanic in CT and he keeps it for 4 weeks! :brickwall: What gets me the most here is that no matter what, you are still a paying customer and these guys have the nerve to treat you like this. Keep at it, there must be some way to get this lazy bum, off his butt and get your car done. And John, that is the best, "mess with me will ya, I'll fix ya!" type story there is. It's the ultimate revenge!

When I needed to paint just the engine bay I could not find anyone willing to do it, and thats after I pulled everything out. Every body shop I talked with said that "we" are too picky about runs, etc...They all want the quick insurance job to generate cash. Back in '93 when mine was painted the shop did one maybe two resto jobs a year. What also helped was that one of the owners belonged to the local Mopar Club. I stripped mine down to help save money and time in the shop. The shop had it for about 3 months which is pretty reasonable. It's a shame that you and others need to go through all this BS.

Customer service is rare in the resto business...always has been. Nothing sucks worse than visiting your car at the shop after a month with great expectations just to find it untouched, and being used as a table for somebody else's car parts. I wish I lived closer, I'd help with your mechanical issues. Good luck!

Sorry to mislead you guys. It took 3 months to paint the whole car in '93. Two years ago I did the engine bay in my garage because I could not find someone to do it.
