Hey Folks,

I am excited to announce that I closed a deal on a 1969 Road Runner. I am going to trailer it home this weekend, and start working on it right away. Here is a pic:

RoadRunner.jpg

It is a good, driver quality car, with a period correct 383. It has been sitting for about 5 years, so at minimum I am going to be flushing fluids, changing the battery, and eventually replacing the tires (they are mildly dry-rotted).

Speaking of the battery, if anybody has current advice on finding a solid, reproduction one, please let me know. I have seen a few mixed things on this and other forums.

Thanks for your time!

Get the yellow cap Group 24 maintenance free battery. Group 24 will be correct for your car. Mine lasted more than 8 years before I sold the car and I believe it's still going strong.

I think the key to the battery life is to keep a trickle charger on them when the car sits for any length of time. I've have them on two of my cars for 4 or 5 years now doing that and so far so good.

Thanks for the battery thoughts/tips guys! Before I keep going on-and-on with battery talk, I may just open another post to curb confusion. :)

Nice score. Welcome aboard. Don't let the peanut gallery scare you off. We're pretty loosey-goosey around here.

I have had nothing but trouble with the repro batteries, float charge or not. After 3 failures, I'm using a Napa black battery. The repros look good but I've had it with them.
