Fastest 383 powered 1/4 mile?

Recently I watched a guy with a Dodge Dart doing high 11s at the Memphis Motorsports Park. Turns out he's got a 383 with 906 heads and an 850 cfm carb. He's got a Mopar cam and an Eddy intake. I don't know what compression he's running, but it can't be too high since he's running with factory heads. Can a 383 expect to do 11s and 12s with setups like this?

What does a bone stock 383 straight from the factory do?

Those of you (with 383s now or in the past) who have done any modifying or bolt ons, what have y'all run on the 1/4 mile?

And what is the best you can push out of a 383 with 906's?

Well, I really don't know much on this topic. About the only thing I think I know is that a stock 383 RR would've been around a 14 second car.

I had a 69 dart many years ago with a 13 to 1 383 with heavily ported 906's that ran 10.80's. It had a 5000 stall and 4:88 gears in it. What a great car! I sold it to a buddy that put a 572 indy headed motor and it runs 9:50's now, pretty much same car. I used to street race it and it would pull the left front wheel a few inches on the street! I used to shift it at 7200.

Hot dang, that's a spicy 383! I've watched a lot of people beat the daylights out of 383s and make them perform as hard as a 440 or stock hemi. I love seeing what people can do with them with a little work.

Dwayne Porter has a 68 RR that went into the 11s with a solid cam 383. The cam is the key there as he could spin it up to where the 383s have a major advantage over other engines.

He is a reputable and nationally known guy so I take him at his word.

97when I started racing back in 1970 my 68 with 383 bird ran with street tires pure stock 14.43 @ 96 mph as I changed a few things went to 7 inch slicks 4.30 rear headers and a reworked avs carb a hurst supershifter finally got it down to run 12.97 to 13.20 depending on heat and track conditions shifted at 5400 rpm max went through the traps at 5400 rpm in high gear and that is pretty much the limit for a 383. Now if you want to go faster then you have to get more serious and get in to the motor, cam heads etc.but I tell you this the only thing I ever broke was push rod through the rocker arm and freeze plug rears is another story. BUT THAT STOCK 383 WAS ONE TOUGH MOTOR IT CAN TAKE A LICKEN AND KEPT ON TICKEN FOR 9 STRAIGHT YEARS OF RACING ALMOST EVER WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
