Ive got a lead on a 1970 Hemi Roadrunner in my area. The guy finally wants to sell. It is completly diaaasembled currently. The interior is complete, the motor was gone through by a local engine builder. Its a numbers matching car. Automatic trans. I'm just not sure what might be a fair price to offer. Got in my mind somewhere around 20k. Looking for input.
Thank you for your time,

Bob

The motor by itself is worth good money, crate Hemi brings anywhere from $10-25K by themselves. Rebuilt one on e-bay asking $28K. If he would consider selling this car for $20k that would be a steal.

I agree, depends on condition of metal. Does car still need painted? Or is it ready to go back together? The more stuff you still need to do the lower the price.

welcome

"Completely disassembled" sounds like a lot of work, thus price reduction.
Does it need paint?

Sheet metal is solid. Was repainted to factory color about ten years ago. Its been in a garage just waiting to get put back together. The guys health isn't the best so he's considering selling it. Did not want to offend him with a lowball offer. I know enough to get myself in trouble. He has paper work that proves a number matching car

Sounds like 20 would be a gift to you. I would put my own eyes on the numbers match thing. $12-$15,000 rebuilt engine. A matching engine adds allot to the value to the collector, how much is in the eyes of the beholder. See if the trans is also matching, same story. If the body is nice with good paint that is 10-15 right there, add the 'R' code even more. Id say the car is worth the sum of its parts. That said try and get a number out of him to start with, it worked out for me.

Wise thought. Offending him will not help at all. That's where tact come in.

If all it needs is assembly, I'd guess around $20 - $25. Higher end if all it needs is install engine, trans and seats. Lower end if it is a shell., but as 69 said, you have to start with and asking price and work from there. If he doesn't have one, that's when you tactfully make your case and present one.

One last thought that probably need not be said is that any car is worth what the buyer is willing to pay. If it is THE car, it's probably worth a bit more than a NICE car. I know when I found mine it was THE car. I thought the price was fair, and though I think I could have brought the price down a bit, I did not even haggle.
