Additional information on the mirrors - after installing the (factory-specific) new mirrors, I discovered the passenger side vent glass would hit the mirror frame when opening the vent. I leaned that because the passenger side mirror was originally always an option, they did not all fit the same and would typically be a bit off from the driver side in measurements. It all depended on how careful the installer was at the assemble plant (some likely used templates or measured while other just eyeballed the location). There were most likely quite a few items that were eyeballed. After taking precise measurements and finding a considerable discrepancy, in measurements, I removed the new passenger side mirror (the door is original) and elongated the holes back and down just enough to match the driver side; reinstalled the passenger side mirror and the vent opens with approximately a quarter inch gap, so both are exactly the same now. I checked photos of my original Road Runner (that I purchased new) and found the bird decal on the doors were not exactly the same (one a bit further forward than the other)… so there you go... these cars were never precise in anything. Our restored RR are typically very much better in fit and finish than when brand new!!!
