Thanks! Big John and I are old acquaintances from way back when I had my black car. I really have always liked his a lot. It was the only seafoam turquoise one I ever saw until the last few years.

I still have that Mopar action floating around with the(your car) black A12,the tech guy Ehburger or whatever his name was, used it as a reference resto,it was a beautiful car. A12's were rare even back in the day I remember a guy whose wife used to work with my mom owned Big John's,that was a long long time ago. Most of the runners I remember had either 383's or Hemi's.The one you have now John is beautiful.

whoa! Really?? Know any other history? I know Larry Gardiner bought my car in Cato from what he thought was the second owner. Dave Johnson bought it from Larry and I bought it from Dave. BTW, if you know Larry's brother Henry... ask him the story.... It's a good one.

Somewhere, I have the name of the guy in Cato, but I never contacted him.

OK... I'll tell the story.

Henry found the car. He calls his brother Larry to help him pick it up. A snow storm hits. (keep in mind, this is the snow country, so the car probably had a couple feet of snow around it.) So.... Henry is out shoveling the car out and Larry goes in to see the owner and buys the car! He comes outside, Henry is finishing up shoveling, having no idea what had just happened. Henry goes in to pay for the car and finds out what Larry had just done.

I never heard this story until I had the car for a while. Henry told me "If that wasn't my brother, I would have killed him with the snow shovel right then and there. I was that mad."

Dale Moore was the guys name, this is going back a long long time ago,you probably have forgotten this but in the late 80's you had your car at the old motorama at the fairgrounds,I was there with my buddy Pat who bought my 72 Charger from me.I saw your car and struck up a conversation with you,I had mentioned that I knew a guy with a A12,the same color but it was a four speed. You said that your car had at one time had a four speed, and you asked me the guy's name,I said Dale's name and you told me you had or had seen an old registration of your car with that name on it.Yes Dale lived in Cato,I haven't talked to him in 20 years, but I do remember that conversation with you all them years ago.

My road runner was bought in Downey California by Robert and Shirley Benfer at Ralph's C-P. The last california reg. I have is dated 1976.Around that time the couple brought the car to the Phoenix NY area where they were from originally. It was then owned by some guys in the Lysander NY area that were heavy into Chrysler products, they were brothers from what I have been told.I have eyewhitnesses that saw the car parked at the hardware store at Wrights corners. Then it got sold to a guy in Fulton NY named Steve Salsberry,he wrecked it,in fact when I first layed eyes on the car it was cracked up I saw it from a distance and assumed it was a Satellite. Some months later a buddy told me about a Dart convertible for sale in Fulton NY. I'm not a Dart guy but thought I'd look at it.As I drove up I realized it wasn't a Dart,(damn Chevy guys) When I saw the Road Runner emblems I wasn't even sure there was such a car I'd seen GTX converts but never a runner,( honestly there were none in my area growing up) with vin in hand I went to Par-K C-P and had Lester Purdy in the parts dept. decode the VIN,his reaction made me realize that this was a rare bird and I had better go buy it before someone else did. 27 years later I still have it. So I figure I'm the 4th owner.

RoadRunnerJD, your cars are gorgeous!
Thanks! What part of Pittsburgh are you in? I grew up in Pittsburgh ... bought a new RoadRunner in Coraopolis in Sept 1969. My sister lives in Moon. A funny but true story:
I bought my black A12 in VA in 1972 and tried to get it inspected at the same dealer where I bought my first RoadRunner. They said they couldn't inspect it with that big scoop. I told them it came from the factory that way but they wouldn't believe me! The Chrysler/Plymouth dealer had no clue that it was a factory limited production car!

I think I told you I saw that car before you owned it parked next door to my sister's camp on Otisco lake. I talked to the owner for quite a while about it.

Big/Jay - I'm quite jealous as I read this and see your cars' histories unfolding right in front of us.

Other than what Tem told me about my car before he passed away (RIP, Tembo!), the only history I have uncovered was fabricated by one of my no-good prankster buddies on this website...

Actually I had forgotten that part, but now you mentioned it yes I do remember that. When I first got internet in the 90's I tried to track down the owners assuming they were still in Cali. had no luck. In 2007 I was reading the obit's in The Post standard and I saw one for Shirley williams Benfer, didn't click right away, then later I realized she was one of the original owners. To think she was 20 miles from my and i didn't know it,but it did explain who brought the car to Central New york.

Nice cars!

Thanks. The RoadRunner only has 7,640 miles. I hate to say it but I don't drive it at all.....

Well...word on the street is that John MAY (I stress may) take it down the ol' 1320 at MIR (Maryland Int'l Raceway) this fall at the MOPAR Eastern Classic. I know this car personally, and can tell you that it is BAD! It needs desperately to "air out" the combustion chambers! Even if he decides not to run it, it is still worth a look on the showfield!
