I haveing a a heck of a time with the axle play on my 69 RR. I only replace the seals. I backed off the adjusting wheel and for some reason it will not adjust the play on the left side but does the right side. I put left side in first hit with a rubber hammer to set bearing and then tighting 5 bolts. Any Ideas Help Thanks Tom RR

Thought that adjuster was only on one side. Do you have play on both side's. The thing is I went with green bearing's and no need for adjustment. Their is a section in the manuals on this. Hope that help's. Wish I could tell you more.

If you have tapered bearings and a limited slip the nails or spacers may have fallen out when you pulled the axles

Sounds like it doing just what it it supposed to do... No adjuster on the left side and the end play is measured on the right. Why do you think the left side is supposed to move or adjust?

Hey Russ went you went with the green bearings is just a matter of replacing them on to the axle? do you have to take the adjuster off the right side or just leave it on the axle

Took mine off and saved it. No need for it. Makes life simple. Think I got mine from doctor diff. Still need the crush ring behind the bearing. I would check to see if the spacer is still in the chunk. Or button.

Didn't get that from your original post... Yeah, that ain't right... Assuming that you have a clutch-type SG unit then I'm going with what Bob noted earlier - you probably lost a thrust button. Correction to my earlier post - should have stated "adjusted on the right and measured on the left". I gotta quit posting when I'm tired...

If you go with the green bearings the end play adjuster goes bye-bye.

Oh I have no beef with green bearings I have them in my Valiant but they don't hold up to hard cornering like the tapered bearings

If the block is the size of the axle you are missing the spacer. You are working with a sure grip right? As you can see the spacers are smaller than the axle195386-434857ec6d48264131926dc2dae74e8e.jpg

So 69Hemie your saying that the green bearing's don't handle cornering. What did you find out. Do they brake. Tom RR I kept my plates and adjuster one. They are on a nail in the garage. You must have knocked the button out when you hit the first shaft in to the hole. Boy oh Boy what dose happen. I got the hole kit from Doctor diff also. The press ring that hold's the bearing on is what I call the crush ring. When doing my tractor axles they say heat them gun metal blue then press them on.

They wear out but most of us won't drive that hard. I have a friend with a 73 cuda that loves curvy mountain roads and he has wore out 3 sets in 5 years.

That's good to know 69Hemibeep. Well don't have to think about that for a while till I get the car done. That could be awhile If I can't get a back window in that fit's.
