68 RR progress

Haven't posted anything in a while so I wanted to show that I'm finally working on my road runner. Started first with the fenders, had to fix where someone cut and rolled the front lip on the fenders for bigger tires??? Picked up a 69 for parts and cut what I needed off of that and welded up mine. Turned out pretty good!

lucky no rust on fenders only other thing I had to do was weld up the antenna hole that was cut in it.

Next moved on to engine compartment to fix the 50yrs worth of holes cut into the firewall!

Anthony look's good man. I had to replace my quarter's and drop downs also or should I say at least 3/4 of all sheet metal on the car. It was a rust bucket. Keep up the good work and keep us up on the progress. Oh after your last post about fire wall wonder if a butcher jobber owned it before you. I feel for you and hope it get's better buddy. Russ.

Thanks! I got really lucky on this one, no real rust just holes people cut over the years. Floorboards just need ALL the holes from bucket seats fixed! And grind down some other peoples bad welds.

Yes that too! I took the seam sealer out from between the firewall and floor pan and there's a 3/16 gap on dr side for about a foot. Covered ALOT of mistakes with seam sealer!!!

Mine had someone hamburger another floor pan over parts of the old one. The cut it off next to the rocker's. This cost me double work taking out one then the junk under it where the old one was left. Seam sealer is ok but when pulling mine apart after year's it let go and let water in under it and that is where a lot of stuff rusted through. Just to say it is not a fix all. Would rather use something like tiger hair in those places. Just saying. Russ.

Their is a lot of stress on the body because it is not a frame car. When welding in the upper and lower cowl and hinge pillars put a lot of spot weld's in their. Every two inches and in curves and corners tighten up to one inch or so. The hole body tweaks when power is applied to these cars. Unibody cars of all kind's. When they put in the new floor pan it did not match the fire wall at all on the driver side. So when putting the new floor pan a two by four and a five pound sledge I had sawed the handle off of years ago was the tool to move the metal to where I need it. Yes pinch those area's and go about an inch apart on your spot weld's. I was so tired of drilling and welding then grinding it smooth about killed me. I did get a Harbor freight pinch welder off E bay from a pawn shop. It helped in many places like the roof where the rain gutter was and back window but still did not reach in some places. Also got a spot welder from East wood that went on my Tig welder count about three seconds or you would burn through it worked ok also. Many tool's bought to restore this old girl. Take your time do it right and if you get discouraged walk away for a little bit cause if you get mad you may tend to use a hammer for some persuasion been there done that and got the trophy

Fixed where the battery tray bolts up today and welded up some more drill holes. And got my Son out there today to scrape and wire wheel all the Seam sealer from inside the car!
