It warped a little on the downward weld, tried to go slow and blow off welds but it still warped a little. Not a professional but still trying to leave the body guy happy.
I use a heat gun to warm up the putty knife. It slid the stuff off pretty good. Still went back with a wire wheel to finish cleaning it all off. Yes my frame rails would not have been here if it was not for the mud. On the welding I moved around also used air to cool the area. But it still wanted to buckle a little. I know I got carried away a few times it was welding sooooo good. Your doing a fantastic job buddy. Body shop guy. You have some young men their Let them have some fun and you supervise what they are doing. Get the long block. If you look into Pete My friend Pete you will learn a lot. I did. He is a grate guy. Even talked to him on the phone. He has a couple of roadrunner restore job's on video. Lot's of tips and trick's even on the welding these and other cars body part's on. Good luck and have fun. Russ.
Thanks Russ finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel! Have to pull door glass out and back window, rebuild pass side door hinges and a few other odds and ends then ready for blaster!
Like my front passenger fender it was a donor. I had been primed filled primed painted- filled again painted and primed and painted again. Thought I would never get it cleaned off. Used paint striper after using an air sander and throwed away a bunch of 80 girt disc. When I saw the red led paint new I was home. Good luck and hope it is in good shape. Russ.
Thanks I know driver fender is a donor with 2 coats of paint other than that everything else looks original with one respray. Hopefully no other rust issues! I know she's got some dings and dents with bondo BUT we'll see.
It seems like the right front fender got the heck beat out of them. Know it was curb side of the car and when going off the road that side always catches something. But my door on that side and rear quarter was not in that bad of shape. The only reason for new doors is they where rotted out pretty bad. Russ.
just an update, finally had the car blasted , should have done that first but I kinda knew the car was in good shape. Luckily there were no Big surprises except for a few holes drilled in one fender to pull out some dents. Now off to the paint shop!!! Will post progress pics .
Good luck Anthony and keep up the good work. Hope the boy's are getting their dose of working on the runner. Teach them well don't think they even have shop in school any more. I showed my son all I could and now he thanks me for the lesions. But still use's me when he need's help. Keep that Mopar Mania Going. Russ.
Tried having everyone out there as much as possible. Son is working full time now and my daughter has a new boyfriend!!! Had my wife out there wire wheeling all the seam sealer from around the doors and drip rails, she did pretty good! Ohh and my daughter is in 11th grade and she's in her second year of Auto shop! She was all excited last week because they were welding stuff.
