One thing that I absolutely cannot stand about BAT is the provision for comments. You ALWAYS get boatloads of stupidity on there. Why do these clowns feel the need to clutter up the poor guy's for sale ad with their inaccurate factoids, details about other makes and models, and their nowhere near correct memories from five decades ago? If you don't know shit about these cars why do you have to prove it by clacking on your keyboard? It's not an AOL chatroom...

Agreed...the 40's and 50's iron has lost a lot of steam in the last 10 years. I think the american muscle cars will have more longevity with the different generations of buyers, but time will tell i guess.

Who knows, I think it will be interesting to see how the cars of the 70's, 80's & 90's stand up as far as collector vehicles. I don't see a lot of them when I go to shows aside from a few early 70's stuff like Chargers, Cuda's, Challengers. Once you get past 1970 for the Road Runner, I don't see many. Maybe they haven't peaked in popularity just yet. What I do see in increasing frequency are tuners and newer vehicles that have a light show of sorts or some crazy paint scheme under the hood.

I owned a '71 GTX back in the late 70's it was an original 440+6 motor pistol grip 4 speed. I think they are more rare than the 68-70 models. I was still driving my '68 RR at the time and mostly took the '71 to car shows.

Depending on where you get your numbers. But 71's are definitely more rare. You wonder why they even made them in 72. They probably didn't re-tool anything from the 71 model year. I don't know the car that well but from photo's they look pretty much the same through 1974 except for paint and engine options. Is that correct?

In 1969 they made 81,105 Road Runners / Of which 787 were hemi's including 10 Convertibles. Also included 1,412 440 A12's.

In 1970 they made 38,796 Road Runners / Of which 287 were hemi's (135 were Superbird's & 3-verts)

In 1971 they made 13,664 Road Runners / Of which 55 were Hemi's and 246 were 440-6 cars

In 1972 they made 6,860 Road Runners / Of which 672 were 440 and badged as GTX.

'71 & '72 look alike. '73 & '74 look alike. Never cared for front end on the latter. Couple that with an available 318-2bbl under the hood and you had one seriously underwhelming car. JMHO.

The front and rear marker lights are 71 only. 72 went to a solid light with no surround. Prolly cheaper. And the rear bumper is different on a 72 I believe. Other than that I believe they are the same.

Yes, I was watching "Garage Squad" yesterday. They were rescuing a 71 Road Runner. It was a 440-car, but a single 4bbl. So I'm guessing a replacement engine, they didn't say on the show, but it was painted blue. The comment was made that the rear bumper was incorrect, it was a 1972.
