In my 69, Have the 383 grabber base which obviously hit the hood. So I bought the reproduction 440 base. But with edelbrock carb and CH4B intake it’s line/line with the hood. And none of the air grabber stuff is on the hood yet.

Everything I’ve read says my combo will work. Air filter is 2.075 probably common.
Any ideas?

If I understand the problem, the hood hits the air cleaner. After market intakes and carbs may be taller than the stock one. If you have the stock setup measure it and see if it is shorter.

I’ll have to modify the 440 base I bought. Probably only need 1/2”. I’ll wait to get my air grabber plastic back from the resto guy then tackle that.

Super chicken....do you see that much variation on the OEM bases?

I think cutting my 383 original may be my best oprion. The reproduction has too much of a taper to be able to cut then re weld the rolled edge that seats on the carb. The 383 base may do the job after a bunch of hours.

Jack R .....I took some measurements ...Now I am not an expert but this is what I got to help you out. I have no part numbers. I will post some pictures . The measurement is from the carb flange to the bottom of the flat on the underside of the base. The tallest one is a 69 with a 383 the middle one is a 70 with a 383 the shortest is a 70 with a 440. You can run a 70 on a 69 car ...just block off the drain vents and run a large oval air filter ...most people wont notice the difference . Sorry none of them are for sale my woman calls me a pac rat and i dont want to prove her wrong. let me know if you need any more info I will do what I can

Interesting. The 383 base is 1/2” taller than the reproduction “440” base I have. Your numbers match. Carb height same as stock the edelbrock CH4B Chrysler intake is what I have. So....may go back to stock intake if I can’t take any height out of the bases
