Anyone ever seen one or build one? I am thinking of making my 70' Road Runner an A12 lift off hood car as if Chrysler would have carried it over one more year. Just need a lift off 70' six pack scoop hood, hood pin brackets, Steelie wheels and repro red line tires to get me started.

Ive never seen one. I will say I did that to a 69 back in the day when I lived in a windy community and I hated the car after doing it. Needed help to check the oil or any other reson to get under the hood and then padding the roof to set it on and the fear of it blowing off the roof. I'd hinge it with front pins.

I have had lift off hood cars before. I just glued foam blocks on the underside of the hood to set up on the roof. Never had issues lifting off or putting back on by myself.

Thanks, that hood is a start.

Yes, glass hoods or any glass body parts for that matter always require a lot of work to get them looking good.

and there are the times you remember that you forgot the hood pins just as you band second and the hood flys off. That's why mine is hinged...

It happens no matter what. I had it happen on a hinged glass good before after my buddy forgot the hood pins and I didn't double check before we took off.

I am sure they could build you one .....you should buy the hinged bolt on hood......this is a quality hood....perfect fit....this is mine ....flat hood with a 5 inch 6 pack scoop.....he has 3 inch also.....years ago i bought a crap 6 pk hood for $399.00 and i could remove and install myself....i had to have 4 pins in the front to keep it from blowing off doing 130 mph at the track18595405_1806652452996369_2615871273388918459_o.jpg

plus I use the factory latch with mine.
Back up latch is always good. We always kept the original latch plus the hood pin's. It is no fun having the hood slam the front windshield. Never had it happen to me but have seen the after math when one did fly up. Not a pretty sight. :steering:

I am also looking to replace my factory hood with a fiberglass one to accomodate a tunnel ram setup. I am going for the lift-off hood, just becasue i really like the look of them.
Anybody ever done this switch before? Ive found the brackets that replace the hinges for the rear pins at classic industries, but am having trouble with the location of the front pins, as the mounting position looks like its on a bracket that is maybe unique to the 69 1/2 A12's?

Any help much appreciated.

found this photo for reference 68 on the left, 69 on the right. seems the fender pads are not interchangeable. Just wondering if anyone else has done this swap, and if so, where/how did you mount the pins?68_69_pad_001.jpg
