1969 Road Runner proper real window seal

Hello. I am currently prepping the rear window flange to install a new glass. I have been curious to the correct seal for this. The original seal used a polyethylene material. I see only butylene rope available which would be fine but I am seeing 2 sizes. 5/16 inch and 3/8 inch. One supplier says that the 3/8 may keep the glass too high for the trim to fit. I this true or can I press the seal in firmly to avoid this?
