Trying to figure out if carpet has ever been replaced on my 70 383. Here are 3 shots showing under the sill plate, carpet lifted up with brown felt liner, and also the wear pad under the driver pedals. Does anyone have any insight as to whether this is original carpet or replacement?
Turns out I got under the car and wrenched those nuts off no problem. There are 2 nuts on each seat rail thing. Just loosening them made the seat assembly loose, so I'm all set. Definitely will try the vinegar water idea next time I've got a frozen bolt. That is really cool.
I've got to remove front buckets to get reupholstered and am wondering if there is a way to remove just the seat, while leaving rails in place.
I see that by removing 2 bolts (under car), each rail should come out, so I can do that. But wondering if there is some way to override the slide stop...
After looking at your photo of radiator support I gave it another hard look and found the VIN stamped just as you stated. Interestingly, the first 2 letters are reversed from the fender tag VIN and dash VIN. Instead of OA it is AO. Not sure if someone had a bad day on the line, or this is a...
Interesting 69hemibeep I see from photo of your gutter that the VIN is literally under the seal itself, and right above that 5 digit thing that I also have. I'm going to crawl in trunk or pull away the seal and see if I've got the VIN in same location. Also interesting how many places...
Thanks. Yeah, I considered the possibility that the radiator might have been replaced. Don't see any signs of it, but I'm no expert on that sort of thing. Interesting to know that your trunk gutters don't have numbers either.
Gentlemen-
There is a VIN on my dashboard up by windshield and also on fender tag.
I don't see a stamped VIN on radiator supports anywhere, and on the trunk lip driver side there is a 5 digit number stamped from below pic attached.
Are there any other locations on car? Want to make absolutely...
I once installed the portion of a harness on a 63 Corvette, which wasn't bad at all. But that was just the dashboard. Doing an entire car would be pretty amazing.
Prowling around under dash I found another mystery. See photo of electrical connector that someone put a white wire jumper. I have no idea wtf this is. If anyone has an idea let me know. Maybe something with the now gone alarm system. No clue.
The car starts and runs no problem. You are right, that taped up wire is two wires twisted together. I didn't realize that would keep the car from running, if you take them apart, but that makes total sense now. I'm going to trace where this wire leads through the firewall. Thanks for...
Aha moment maybe. After reading about a toggle under dash I went out and looked under dash. Toggle switch. . . ! See photo. On right is a ground that has been cut off. And to left is a black wire, pretty heavy duty gauge, also cut off. Yeah, and the emergency brake light is loose, trying to get...
Haha, right the car be gone. . . anyway! Yup, pretty sure that was alarm trip. I haven't checked passenger door, but probably one there, too, I would guess.
Underneath the hood looks virgin to me. I don't see any holes or anything that might indicate a light was installed at some point. I am tending to think this is an old alarm switch, though with a 383, I'm not sure why it would be under the hood, as there is an identical switch on the door jamb...
Alarm system! That must be it. There is another switched like this installed on driver's door. It is right next to the switch that turns on courtesy lights when door is opened. Didn't know why that would be there either. This makes sense now, someone had an alarm system for engine, and also to...
