Originally I was gonna paint the steelies I'm getting body color and get radial redline tires...well after pricing them online they came out to $1200.00 just tires not including mounting (215 fronts and 295 rears). So RWL it is...Cooper Cobras are $420...
So do I paint the wheels body color and buy poverty caps, or go black steelies w chrome lug nuts no caps?

If you go steel, I'd go black with chrome acorn lugs and a chrome dust cap up front (unless of coarse you are going for originality).

I am not an originality type of guy...

Then why fiddle around with steelies in the first place? Lots of good looking aftermarket options out there...not to mention the benefits of reduced rotational mass... If you're determined to go with the steelies then I vote for body color and poverty caps. I may own a car that came with black hose reels and chrome acorn nuts, but I'm not a huge fan of the look...it's pretty blasé IMHO....

By not into originality, I mean hoses, clamps, 14" wheels don't matter to me...I do like period correct/day 2 cars w attitude...I like both looks...but black steelies give it a more sleeper look imo

Black wheels look like someone stole your hub caps. But that's just me thinking out loud

Can't I just use the lugs from the road wheels that are on her now?
Sure you COULD. I just think the chrome lugs and dust cap dress it up a bit. That's how I did my first one in '69.

Just a couple of examples

My concern about painting body color is matching the body color… My car was painted at least 20 years ago… Although it still looks very nice… I would hate it if they were shade off

I don't think it would be noticeable because of the black tire separating the two

I wondered this afternoon Dave, when you were going to chime in on the merits of cragers here. :bump:

Well it's a moot point now. Picked up the steelies this morning off a guy on FABO. $225 for 2-15x8 wheel vintiques new in box and 2-15x6.5 used but in great shape-painted green over the black-so they'll be changed back to black.
can't wait to change the wheel/tire set up...

That should not be a problem either. I have a local paint store (Keytone) near me and they will put a camera type thing on the hood which gives them the mix code and they mix the paint and put it in a spray can. It's not cheap, but it is exact. That said, I still vote for black.

Come to think of it, I ordered some interior paint from a place that someone here recommended a year ago and it was no where near. I need to pull the radio panel cover and have them mix me a can.
