Rapping the pipes

Since I have owned my Road Runner, she's had cherry bombs / glass packs with full dual exhaust and the factory exhaust manifolds, no headers.
After getting on it while on the highway (or street ) after you let off the pedal, it will "rapp the pipes" as I've heard it called. You know....bamm bbbamm bamm BAMM bBBBBbbbBamm.

Is this hard or damaging to the motor at all? A result of low back pressure?

I wouldn't think so. I've never heard of anyone developing engine issues because they had glass packs, not to mention that if they were detrimental in any way I doubt any manufacturer would want the liability. It seems to be the general characteristic of that type of muffler, anything I've ever heard them on reacts the same way. :cents:

guys run open headers all day long.......more horsepower....but on the street the police dont have a sense of humor......i havent gottin pulled over yet since my flowmaster muffs are really loud

What causes the rapping is unburnt fuel in the exhaust. When you let off there is a surplus of unburnt fuel that tends to ignite in the hot exhaust. If you ad a cross over it will reduce it. I add what I call the tweak chamber and it eliminates it altogether. Exhaust leaks make it worse since it seems to get the A/F just right. Here is a pic of the tweak chamber I put on all my cars.

Heres some pics of it on the car. You can buy an X-pipe commercially, but its not the same as this chamber and once you hear the sound of the chamber you will never go back!
