OK, so Gary took the driveshaft to a shop and they determined that there was a flat spot so we replaced it with a nicely balanced shaft. That was installed last night. Haven't been able to test drive with new shaft yet (hopefully tonight) because we still had what we thought was a charging system problem.
As it turns out, the guages were right, the alternator was charging. LOL. Gary got on the phone today with Tech Support for MSD and we found out that the MSD box is bad. Picked a new one up today, so with any luck that will solve the problem and I may know later tonight if both the vibration and starting issues have been resolved.
