If you guys read up my progress post under Build Sheet Photos you know I had the task of putting a 1/4" strip of metal on my quarter panel to match the correct dimension. I ended up measuring the dimensions all the way down the quarter and used a jig saw to cut the strip of metal out. Then it was hours of sanding, shaping and fitting before we finally got to weld the piece in. Hardest part was bending the strip and also getting the correct shape out of the quarter and roof line. We also had to totally rebuild the door jamb where the quarter folds over. It had been braised in with brass (why it looks so sloppy, as brass rejects weld pretty easy). We had to fit a piece in here as well and reshape the quarter so that it matches up perfect with all lines of the car.... took a LOT of opening and closing that damn door to get a good fit. Next step is to grind the weld both inside ( ) and outside the trunk, and finally apply a little bondo! We are getting there....lots of damn work and engineering though!

If I had it my way I wouldnt have to have these little patches here and there...but hey its a 40 year old car that was left to rot, I am doing my best to bring her back. I am very happy with the way the door and quarter lines up! All this work will be worth it, but unfortunetly it gives you a good eye and you learn to easily spot gaps that are off on your car and others! Before I used to go to shows and think cars were cool, now I go and like the cars that have great lines and have great door, fender gaps etc.

yeah thats for sure. Read an article in mopar collectors guide about someone who restored a hemi cuda and went extra sloppy on the sealer on the back window, sloppy on the undercoating the trunk and use lightly rusted parts in order to achieve a true "factory" look. Really went crazy to overspray in certain areas and other interesting things
