Pulled the rear end apart. Gears look perfect.

Turns out it's a 3.23 Sure Grip. Gears and Axles in perfect shape. Sending axles off to get new green bearings installed then reinstalling everything. Rear housing being primered and painted today I think. Cleaned up very nicely I think.

Good question. I really don't even know what they are, but will run it by the guy doing the work. Are Green Bearings different than what would have been in there stock?

The standard tapered have a race they seat against and there is an adjusting ring on the right side that you set the clearance for both axles which use a plug in the center if the gear set that takes up the void between the axles. Green bearings are a sealed bearing and I do believe that the thrust block is to be removed. P.S. look threw the gear set where the axles go and if you can see threw your ok

Bob, as a follow up, I'm told that the green bearings are what are needed when converting to rear disc brakes and that the kit comes with everything we need.

Running green bearings on 29" Yukon axles and left the plug in with no issues. put them on the stockers too, but I didn't run them long before I swapped the axles. Not sure what problems the plug could cause. The only thing I can think of would be that there might be a clearance issue with the stock axles since there's no longer any adjustments. Please feel free to enlighten me.
yes the outer race will have to be pulled from the tube, not a big deal. Get new seals and be sure to grease them prior to sliding the shaft in. Also grease the O- ring on the bearing and use the mounting flange nuts to pull it in.

I did some looking around and the plug or thrust block can stay as long as everything bolts down without gaps. If it does not, some have milled 0.050 off one axle to get the needed clearance instead of pulling the plug :D Oh if they get the adjustment ring and plate off the right side without ruining it I could use it

Thanks guys, I didn't know that using this particular bearing presented so many issues. I will pass along your comments to the installer; but I know the guy has done it before on many Mopars he's restored. I'll let you all know. Thanks, John.

With stock axles you should be fine. I haven't ever see a problem with green bearings and stock axles, with aftermarket axles you will have to remove the thrust block. :cents:
