Oil Leaking again. . .

Well, after a couple weeks of no leaking from the valve cover gasket, I started the car for a friend last night that wanted to hear her. More oil from the covers onto the headers burning up and smelling nasty. Gonna try to tighten them down this weekend, but I can't imagine they came loose already; I've only run the car a couple times since.

Any suggestions for better/tighter covers? I've heard the MP covers have these leak issues quite a bit. Might be easier just to change out the covers.

Thanks guys,

John

new gaskets sometimes need snugged down :yesnod:

Thanks, I hope that's all it is. I'll give it a whirl this weekend. Haven't had time to drive her much. I'm a tax CPA in busy season so living at the office. I want to get some nice video of her on the road very soon.

Thanks for all your help.

Had this problem with 528RB in beginning.
Changed to Cometic rubber wraped steel valve cover gaskets and never had it again.

And you can re-use the until the end(or when fuel runs out , what ever comes first)

The HP felpro gaskets work well for me with no RTV on my MP aluminum covers.
I tell the parts guy at Oreilly "1974 coronet HP 440" then make sure they are the rubber impregnated ones.
I also put fine / corse threaded studs in my heads instead of using bolts and then use the fine threaded nuts that have the built in washer.
I had a problem with my bolts bottoming out and I thought they were tight when they really werent.

And you are right...that smell is nasty!

Interesting, never thought about the bolts bottoming out, good call. Others have suggested studs as well. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
