No Low (1st) Gear Big Block 727 Transmission

Hey,
I am experiencing a problem with my big block 727 trans. No matter what I do, I have no low (1st) gear. This includes manually moving the shift arm all the way forward to where low gear should be. It only acknowledges 2nd gear at the two most forward shift indents. I would appreciate any idea's and/or suggestions regarding this. Thanks! Greg

Ok.. Does it have reverse?

Does it shift 1-2-3 when you have it in drive?

Is this the original trans for this car? The reason I ask that is I have seen some cop cars with the 727 having a first gear lock out.

Checked the fluid in neutral, engine running?

Sounds like a broekn band or valve body issue maybe.

You need John Kunkel stat.

I think John is on to something. I would pull the pan and check the band adjusters, I had one back off and it lost a gear, I think it was reverse though.

Broken low/reverse band won't let reverse engage.
