Two years of dependable starting just ended on 5/27/12. The starting gremlin is
back and uglier than ever. Turn the key and get absolutely nothing. Let me
take that back, the radio will turn on. Starter is only two years old, same with firewall relay.
Battery has a full charge, connections are looking good and clean all the way around.

Does an ignition switch just "go" without warning, or would it be occasional in and out
operation?

Sucks.

Just because the battery is fully charged it the amps that turn the starter over. I would have the battery checked if you haven't already.

Sam, I can't remember if your car is an auto or manual, but if it is an auto, the neutral safety switch may be the culprit. I had one go bad on the '71 last week. A cheap part (13 bucks) and 2 quarts of tranny fluid. :cents:

Try shorting the starter relay. I know it's fairly new, but they are usually the culprit.

From there, check the connections at the starter. Jump from the large battery connection to the small solenoid connection to check starter operation.

what Big said. I learned working at the IH dealer, just 'cause a part is new, it doesn't mean it's a good one. we went thru a stack of new Delco altornaters once just to find a good one.
