So I decided if and when we ever get this car done we will be trailering her to the long haul out of state shows but will deffanenly drive to local or neighboring states, like NY ,New Hampshire ,Mass. So just out of curiosity what kind of gas mileage are you getting with your bird ? A guy we recently came across in upstate NY who had a 440 roadrunner said he gets 300 miles to a full tank of gas when hitting the car shows . Not sure that's all interstate miles .

Assuming that he is using 18 of the 19 gallons in his tank then he'd be getting over 16 mpg. I'm not sure what the 440s can get for mileage but the best I've got with my 383 with 3:23 gears is 13 mpg, and that was on the trip to Carlisle last year. A lot depends of course on how you drive the car. Of course the more you keep your foot out of the pedal the better you will do. You might want to start checking the mileage as you drive it now to get an idea on what you'll get for gas mileage.

I just asked my wife if she was sure the guy said 300 miles to the tank full and she remembers him saying 300 . I didn't do the math but 16 mpg sounds imposable . I think the guy said 150 but not sure .

I fill up with 110 octane at $8.99/gallon with my stroked 440. I get about 7 miles to the gallon on the highway driving 55-60 mph with 4:10's. On the street babying it, about 5 or so.

Best I can tell with the one tank I've gone through on mine I'm averaging around 10mpg combined city and highway. I still have some dialing in to do with the timing and carb tuning, but I can't imagine getting much more than 11. I have a 383 with 3:55 rear.

In my last runner, I had a 440, 4 speed, with 3.55s. I never figured the milage out, but the first time gas hit $4 a gallon, I parked my '86 Power Wagon and drove the road runner to work. 18 miles each way, about half highway, the rest hilly 2 lane, and I got 5 days out of a tank. I also drove this car the 2 1/2 hours one way to the Mopar Nats, crusing at 70 :drive:

that's 180 miles per tank full , I guess that's pretty good ! I'm assuming all the tanks were the same size ?

I used to get 15-16MPG with my 383 RR. 11-12MPG with the A-12. The 300 gets around 13MPG the last I really checked, but it's better when I can feed it a strict diet of no ethanol premium. I gonna switch out the thermoquad this winter for an Edelbrock AFB, so we'll see what happens in the spring.

So if I'm only getting around 10-11mpg, not driving with a heavy foot, what should I look at to improve the mileage? Have a new Edelbrock 600cfm on it. Stock internals.

Cars have to run right... everything has to be tuned correctly etc. That's the big one.

But... given the same car, I will often get better gas mileage than any one else driving it.... AND I will have the heaviest foot.
